When changing my air filter (I use all OEM Ford Motorcraft parts when I do maintenance) it had the Motorcraft Part #FA-1632 on it, when the owner's manual specifies Part #FA-1634 for the air filter. It is the right air filter (i.e. it's a Ford Motorcraft shaped and sized exactly the same as my old one), but I guess I'm just **** about number stuff like that.
Is there some sort of equivalency table where I can tell what parts are the same as others (obviously parts and their respective numbers evolve and change). I mean, no biggie here with a plain vanilla air filter, but what if I go to replace something more significant, and the spec is for Motorcraft Part XYZ, and the dealer gives me a part that says Motorcraft Part ZZZ?
It's probably no use to ask the Ford dealer that I got it from because they looked up the part number and I asked the guy if he was sure and he double checked and said yes.
