Hey Cruiser66, Welcome to FTE!

I think the Years would be 65-79 for the Parts interchange thing? 61-64 use different frame.

Ask all the Questions you want, We are here to Help!

You are correct 1965 to 1979 parts all interchange. I have completed the power steering and power disk brake swap on my 65 and those are two great MOD's to complete on your truck. There is lots of info on here about the swap and if you have any questions just ask and someone on here will help you out. If not just PM and I will help where I can.

Find and buy a 73-79 F100 with 300-6 ps & pdb donor and swap the complete I-beam set under your truck. You will need an I-6 donor for the proper fitting pump brackets and pulleys. The donor should have a like tranny because you want the shifting to work with the column swap.

I can one hand my truck around a parking lot any day of the week...so the manual steering on my 66 Ford suits me just fine....power steering would be nice when parallel parking in San Fransicko...but mmm...I don't go there that often and I don't drive my baby enough to feel a need for even easier steering...

There's a point here....I've got a 1965 thru 1970 power steering box with lines...you get your own bracket, pulley and pump. It is a stock remanufactured unit. These things sell for $750~ + $300 core at a supplier, which I'm not. So, if were a stickler for new stuff and had no core..that's $1000~ right from jump street...ok if you got the bread...a deal killer if not...

NO CUTTING of column required on this one...just bolt in hook up service and you're good to go. If you got a V8 NO Changing of driver's side exhaust manual......which can be tight+ when using later model units.

If you want really want to go down that pathway just email or PM (through this site) me....and we can work out a deal. I'm not looking to get rich of the durned thing...that won't work..but we will be fair to one another.

Again, I'm not a dealer of any kind...just a dude with a part you think you are interested in.

It is clean as a whistle and must have been put on just before the dude scrapped his truck. I got a complete set of stock split rims off the truck with NEW rubber..and a spare that had never been on the ground..date marks clearly visible, sweet......so this dude was on the right path...but lost heart I guess.

Let me know...

Holy cow batman. I bought an entire 1979 f-100 with power steering, power brakes, 351 cleveland and c4 with newish tires for $1200. $1000 for a steering box seems a little high, but thats just me.

My local scrap yard was going to sell me everything needed on a power brake/power steering setup for $200-250. I only got the whole truck since it had a lot of goodies I wanted in addition to the brakes and steering. Do a search on frame swap or chassis swap before you decide which way to go. Just depends how involved you want to get.

good luck. This is a great site with lots of knowledgable folks (not me though).

later

Wellll, I'm not looking for $1000 that's not right...

Many guys have used the later model gear and had to cut down their stock column and re-weld to the right length...not something I'd ever contemplate doing...I'm kind of bolt in bolt out kind of fellow...

Anyways...if'n any one's interested...I'm right here..like I said, I'm not a parts dealer just a dude with something it seems many people are interested in using on their truck...

My own sef...I like the manual steering...

I have bought 2 setups for my own use and been a part of several others. I think I paid $600.00 for one of my donors, sold $800-900.00 of parts that I didn't use. I basically got my power disc brake and power steering for free. Because I bought my donor, I had every part that I needed including the little ones over looked. The donor steering column was the correct size so there was nothing to cut and weld one.

There is not need to spend a thousand bucks for something that can be gotten for much less.

Totally agree on that...700 for a reman..come on...plus 300 for the core...give me break...but I guess they got to make theirs...

I figure this unit (I actually have two, it's a long story how) is worth 350 to 500...prolly about $400 is about right for the convenience of an off the shelf part that's clean and doesn't have a core charge attached to it.. Maybe a little less than that, but not much...I've got some money into it..time for removal... and so on......

One thing I know is that not everyone is into hanging out at wrecking yards and then getting in the dirt on a hot day or the mud on a winter one to pull parts... and are therefore willing to pay a little more for the convenience of an already removed and cleaned (if needed) part ...

Tally ho...

TH1567
It's a sad thing to see an old Ford in the wrecking yard....cast away to picked at by vultures looking for a part to consume...but that's the breaks....some lose, some win...Go Stock or Go Home...

Someone not willing to get a little dirty, wet, sweaty, tired, busted knuckles, may not be a Ford guy/girl. I play hell Sunday night and Monday morning to get the grease from under my nails and off my fingers. The rest I can cover up pretty good with my slacks and dress shirt.

PS: This site has the gear box for $200 plus $75 core charge. Autozone sells the pump for $45. Just a reference don't know squat about these folks.

That's funny...I've got this weird forefinger that I smashed about one too many times in my carpentry days and busted too many times pulling parts, swapping parts..and generally messing about on cars and trucks..

I canNOT get the grease out from under that durned thing...well not without drawing blood.. What I hate the most is forgetting to warsh my forearm all the way and wiping it off on the towel! WELL, the wife don't like it none nohow...

Hey, maybe my figures ARE out of hand on that steering box...what do I know?... I'm sort of going off of what I've read..and some bitter experience... Had a guy sell me what HE said was a 727 Torqeflight that would fit my 65 Dog Station wagon....I struggled for HOURS till I finally figured out I had the wrong part....tranny fluid in my hair ruined clothes...my best friend and were some mad mo fo...if'n you know what I mean...

It's a long road..but I'm in my Ford F250 and I'm fine...uh, where's the next gas station...??

thanks, lots of good stuff, the more i drive it, the more i like the armstrong steering, but the stopping, yep, power brake a must. how close are the 240 i6 and the 300 i6 (1981) and i do like to hang out at the junkyard, i have a 72 land cruiser fj55 rock crawler project, and a dirt drineway... hahaha. i think i want the truck mostly stock with better brakes.

Power brakes, now that's a big, big difference I can relate to...very much a yes from a guy that prefers 'close to original as is possible..Steering that's one thing, Ford had that dialed...but the brakes on these things...well..it could have used some more Ford Better Ideas...

Keep on chooglin'
