My '02 F-250 has a remote engine start decal under the hood. But there is no remote. Where would be a good place to pick one up? Will the remote start cycle the glow plugs or just instantly try and start it? Thanks in advance.
I have the viper system...dont know the model off hand. yes it will delay start for a set time so the gp's cycle. it also is an alarm, and will run the truck while removing the key and running into a store or somewhere else. By far my most fav mod done on my truck yet...
Look under the steering column area, you should see a box if it is installed since they get the wires typically from right off the steering column. Take a look and see what brand and model number. That should tell you were to get a remote.
Got a Crimestoper remote start with alarm. Same as Jay above, can leave my truck without the keys and locked running, great feature. Mine waits also for the glow plugs to work....

I looked and don't see anything. Where is the starter located on these engines. That should have a name on it shouldn't it?

they do not touch the starter at all...they tie in to the ignition under the dash. they cut the hot, right underneath the steering cloumn and tie the control box...same as you would hot-wire a car.

Well it must of been removed then, cause I don't see any box under there...
If there is no box under the dash the previous owner may have removed it but left the sticker. I dont know why people do that since its pretty expensive to reinstall a used RS and alarm. To get the proper remote, you NEED to know the manufacturer and the model #. That info will normally be located on the brain. If nothing is there, it should be real easy to install another system since all the wires under the dash will already be marked and pulled out of the wire looms most likely.
they may have just taken the brain. also, it could have been malfunctioning at the dealer or for the previous owner so they just disconnected the brain and tossed it. if you take a few pics, im sure I or someone on here can tell you what brand brain you need just by seeing the plugs that are unhooked. as for the beeps, it could be a relay thats still connected, but im not sure at all.

I'll go out and snap a picture. Be back within 15 minutes.
That actually looks like a basic DEI (they make viper, Clifford, hornet, sidewinder, automate, valet, and a few others) remote start. The wire colors look like a DEI brand as do the main harness there with the larger wires. go to Coming Soon... and any of thier RS only units should work. What I would suggest, go to a local RS installer in your area that sells DEI brands and have them take a quick look. I bet they would LOVE to sell you a brain and spend 5 mins hooking it up for you. Which I would suggest that only because if there was a problem before, they can fix it for you. Also, make sure they/you install the new antenna that will come with the unit, the older units had a long streach of bad antennas. They have been fine now for the past 2 years or so.
