If you really want a Bad 300 Six-banger check out this before you go to far: www.cliffordperformance.net The cost for a pavement smoking, fire breathing 300 six might just give you sticker shock. The cost effectiveness is in, like the guy's said, a small block. A 351W can be made to be healthy pretty cheaply and there are lots of vendors that handle the parts. I have a 351W 4V with RV cam and a C4 in a 67 F100 2WD. If I stay out of the 4 barrel and drive normal I get about 17 mpg. When I listen to ZZ Top it drops to about 12 mpg. Just some thoughts of my own? What ever you personally want to do is fine. Just make it happen and enjoy it!!

My stock 78 f350 with the 400m and a fresh tune up got 13.8 mpg highway at 65-70 mph.
my truck now has a stock 390 FE and over the last 400 miles it got 12.6 including alot of city driving.
I'v never had a 300 I6 what is it's mpg like.
Wow. I was expecting better than that! But those are big motors.
Not bad if you set it up right. A lot of guys claim 15 city / 18 highway, which isn't bad for a flying brick. Mine drinks gasoline like it's free. I think there may be something wrong with it. I've been throwing money at it but I'm about done. I expected better MPG than what I'm getting with the new tires and gears.
I think my auto tranny is killing it. That would explain the horrible in-town mileage but my highway seems to be right on the money.
that was also hauling biulding materials around and dump runs in all kinds of driving conditions, stop and go trafic, city, cruzing speed, and washington isn't getting any flater. during this time I was doing testing how the truck ran at differant timming settings, so there was a lot of WOT time.
mine gets about 21-22 highway and about 16-17 city, but i use 92 octane fuel. i dont know how much of a difference that makes but it seems to get better gas milage than when i used 87 and it has more power.
Got a cold air intake with a 2.5in cat back and a magnaflow muffler. While I was at it I told em to cut the hump off and now the exhaust exits just forward of the tire. Put a hotter MSD coil and a K&N on it to finish it off. Not much of an improvement but instead of merging onto the highway at 52mph I merge at 60mph.
QFE for this motor is not a speed demon. However, if you feel the need to rip the titanic off the ocean floor and haul it to NY. Then this is probably the motor to do it with.

Clifford sucks sweaty monkey *****. They'll break it off in your @ss after they wrap it with dynamite and broken glass. Then they'll light the fuse and run away so they don't have to help out when your ***** blows up.
Sounds like you had a bad experiance with Clifford? I'm not pushing Cliffords products I just wanted to give the guy a round-a-bout cost of hot rodding a six-banger. I personally have only used their intakes, headers, and some marine grade rods for a cirlce tracker I built a few years ago. They worked fine for that purpose without any failures.

Search this forum and you will find that the majority wouldn't **** on Clifford if it was on fire. They are jerks and their products are at best second rate leftovers from when they were on the cutting edge about 30 years ago.
you pretty much "pay to play" with these motors. they are not cheap when it comes to going fast, and forced induction is the best way to go. however, that being said, the stock internals will not hold up to much. you can go ahead and add forged pistons and rods to your price est. if you want to go fast with a 300, put it in a really small car. you will have much more fun and probably not spend half as much. unless you cant weld. then i would go with a V8.

300 six in a single cab Ranger. Put a heavy rear bumper on it for better balance, and wallah. It should be pretty quick, eh?
I wonder if someone did put a 300 in the bed of a Ranger, if when they stomp on it they could lift the front end of the Ranger off the ground?? That would be a really short drive shaft. I bet it's possible.
