main bearings

main bearings

im replacing the oil pump in my truck due to oil pressure and i guess i should go ahead and chage the bearings also, just in case......question is, what size do i need to get? i know very little about this engine such as if has been rebuilt or anything like that

oh, something else worthy to mention.... i believe that the engine is out of a 76 torino from the casting # on the exhaust manifold, but not sure.... autozone has different part #s for a 76 torino and an 83 f150 with a 351w....will there be any difference?

You did try a mechanical gage on it too ?

If your bearings are worn enough to lose oil pressure you need a new engine!
FYI, bearings are usually marked on the back as to how much they are oversized.
And I'll ask the same thing Mark did, did you try a mechanical oil pressure guage first?

Bearing sizes

As Oldmetal said, the bearings should be marked as to oversize. You can plastigauge to find the clearance, and use .001 or .002 oversize (available for main journals only, from Ford IIRC) to compensate for minor wear without regrinding. The Ford shop manual should cover this.
