Im still up in the air about a bed. Ive got a new flatbed that i can use and put my commercial insurance on it for cheap or i have a decent camper special bed with the toolbox in it.

I am confused on why you are adding the section of steel? Is it to mount the spring pad too?

1st off - just subscribing.

2nd - bolt on OR weld on. I personally like bolt on as it can be just as strong, but easier to change if you ever decide to. I never understood why guys do both If you weld it - cut 2" or so dia. circles in the plate about where you have the bolts and then weld around the dia. of the holes. This will give you more attachment points/weld surface.

yes - do a larger radius where the L shape starts

Last - don't bring the end of the plate to a point like that - radius it (large radius) instead. Points are where cracks/tears form with something that is welded. I know this area won't be seeing a ton of load at the end of the plate out there, but it is always better to radius the edges of a plate you will weld. Even if it slightly lessens the lenght of the attachemtn point (overall weld length)

Otherwise - like someone else said - more work and less talk. You have 2 years of talking about this to make up for already

*edit* so I decided to do a little photochopping to make my points more understandable. Obviously your lines would be straighter and your circles more like actual circles!

What kills me about Mudrats, and others is the lack of side to side reinforcement on the spring mount. Obviously it works fine, but I think I just overkilled mine (maybe should have taken a few note before I began)

Well today has brought the suck bad. After bout 15 min my work light burnt out. I got bout 5 holes drilled and brock the only 1/2" bit i had in 2. So i decided that i would take the cab loose to be able to get the drill and hole saw in to cut the shackle mount holes. Well the socket i needed for the cab mounts was the only one i didnt have with me. So when i finally gave up and went to leave it had been snowing and i didnt know it. The ranger was put into the gaurd rails and kept at 6 grand for about 15 min until i got out and now it smells like burnt oil. And no i dont have any pics.

You asked for it!

I completely removed a flimsy crossmember that sat there. The dodges had front shackles, so I reversed them My current front spring eye sits about the same, but I dropped the rear of the spring to accomodate a shackle....
Anyway, the part I was talking about is the triangle shaped piece that completely covers the fronts of the springs. Looking at others, it seems overkill

Sorry about your day. These are the times that make a fun project less enjoyable

What year was your dodge? Mine was a 92 and it had the ragular front shackle setup. Shackles in the rear of the springs.
