The theory that the high pressure oil doesn't mix would be easy to test if a guy had some tracerline oil dye, put it in the crankcase, drive it for a while and then check the oil in the reservoir.

I have posted about this in the past, just make sure to top it off with fresh oil when you do it. BTW, I have not watched the video.
So the nasty stuff at the bottom that never gets recirculated should never make it into the rails right?

I've never sucked any oil out of my HPOP, but this has my interest up now. I'm still 2000 miles from my next oil change, but I think I'll go pull that oil out and see what it looks like.

I gotta' build me one of them "mayonnaise jars". I'm thinking that it might also make a heckuva' brake bleeder!

My luck, I'll end up destroying my vacuum pump in the process...

This sounds like it may be something to do. I don't know how the HPOP circulates the oil, and like you guys, wonder how to find out for sure. I can't amagine ford would build something like this and keep using the same oil over and over again. You would think there would be something in the maint. book about this if it was this way.

The way i understand the hpop system is that after the oil pressure has triped the injector it dumps into the the oil system under the valve cover and returns to the sump, thus the oil is always being feed to the hpop to maintain a certan level from the sump. I think the key to this all is to change your oil on a regular basis. I have taken the plug out and looked in my hpop res and the oil color of the oil always looks like the color of the oil on the dip stick. Look at your oil in the hpop just before you change your oil, then change your oil and look at it about 500 to 1000 miles later and compair oil color and see what you think!

Maybe this might help to explain how the oil flows thru the HPOP system.

Advance Auto Parts sells a siphon kit for $3.88 that will work instead of building a pump. I just bought one and Im going to take a quart out when it stops raining.

Well, THAT's the way I THOUGHT the HPOP system worked!

Though I can fully agree with the premise that a real thorough oil change would include sucking the HPOP reservoir dry ONCE at the same time you drain the sump, then re-filling it, THREE times is a waste of time.

Yeah um well This guy is nuts! The HPOP system is supplied oil from the LPOP. The HPOP does recirculate any high pressure oil. Once oil is pumped into the reservoir there are two ways out. The injectors or the IPR bleed off. No recirculation what so ever. The oil in the HPOP Galley is the same oil that is in the pan. The high detergents in diesel oil prevent any buildup not matter where its in the engine. Have you ever compared the sludge in a gasser compare to your PSD. I have NEVER opened up a diesel to find sludge build up unless it had coolant in the oil.

If it makes you feel good you can remove the oil from the reservoir but I don't see it as needed for the longevity of your engine or injectors. Use the correct oil and change it regularly or use a bypass filter with a make up oil routine and you are good to go.

I have seen a few of this guys video's and this the first crazy thing I have seen but you never know.
