Clutch problem

Recently ran into (I think) a clutch problem with my '92 Explorer. After a few days of noises, which I first thought came from something else, I could not get my truck into gear anymore. If I push in the Clutch pedal, it goes down all the way. So a 'friendly' mechanic looked under the car and told me I needed a new clutch disc/plate. Now my truck has more than 130,000 miles on it, plus a few more problems, nothing major, but I was wondering if anyone of you can shed some advice. I am concerned about the pressure plate needing to replaced as well, in which case I need a whole kit.

Anytime you have to drop the tranny for a clutch job, my recommendation would be to replace the pressure plate, clutch, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, slave clutch cylinder, and master clutch cylinder. I would also recommend re-surfacing the flywheel, and be sure to look over the ring gear carefully on the flywheel.

Also, not a bad time to check the rear main seal.

Too much labor involved in dropping the tranny to not inspect and replace $200-300 worth of parts.

Thanks for the advice; just one quick question, how about using remanufactured parts?

I rarely do for stuff like this. Just too hard to get at when you're doing the work yourself. A brake master cylinder is one thing, but the last thing you need is a reman slave cylinder fail a month later, and half a day to drop the tranny again. Up to you, but for my money and time, I stick with new parts with clutch jobs.
