2003 Expedition

OK So i am looking to get an 03 or 04 Expedition 5.4 engine. Now the thing is i have a 1999 Expedition 4.6 engine already. With my 99 i had the head gasket leak problem it was fixed under warranty and i never had the problem again. I did some reading on the 03's and up and it seems Ford has made a few changes to the triton engine. Now here is my question.... Has anyone with an 03 Expedition and up had this same head gasket leak problems? If so when did it start, if not what are some of the other problems you have had. When i say problems i mean problems that are wide spread that i should expect to happen..

thanks guys...

I have an 03 5.4L with 80K miles and have had no problems. I would look to see what year they switched to the 24 valve version and go for that year (04 or 05?) since you will get better mileage and improved low end torque for towing. There should be some good deals out there these days!
Good luck.

I think the 03 NAVI has the 24 valve engine.

My 04 XLT has 90,000 miles and 5.4 4X4 and no problems at all. Just routine maintenance. I believe I heard that the Navigators with 24 valve engines use premium fuel so you might want to double check, with the price of fuel so high now.

03 4x4 EB 110K and only real issue was a blown A/C condenser, but rock caused that. My wife loves it more than her souped up Mustang Convertible - go figure!

Door lock accuator (sp?) problems.I haven't had 4 door locks working at the same time for more than a 3 month period for more 2 years now. Out of extended warranty now. Therefore, I just bought an 03 Chevy. Too bad something as simple as power door locks will keep me from buying another Ford.

There are a lot of great deals out there for trucks and SUVs, Ford, Chevy, and any other. I just bought a 2003 Z71 Extended Cab PU w/ 76k miles in excellent condition. I truly don't think the tailgate was ever opened! Anyway, it's a buyers market. Good luck in what ever you buy!

i've owned all chevy or gmc's (last was a 2001 tahoe) up until my current 05 EB, so trust me when i'm not being negative and just speaking from experience. the 1500's literally have disposable transmissions. i guarantee that you will rebuild or replace the transmission by 120k. also, go ahead and change the rear differential fluid and check for metal. now i know that the fords have problems of their own, but i never imagined that i'd be repairing all those things before i hit 200k, much less 114k, and 119k.

oh yeah, the EBCM had a loose connection somewhere inside the body of the unit and the ABS and EBRAKE light would come on. when lit, the ABS was rendered useless. funny thing is, when i shut off the ignition and restarted it would clear up until i hit a nice bump or pothole. never got that fixed because it was between $700-$1100, depending on where the estimate came from.

I have an 04 EB and it is still the 16 valve engine. I think they changed it either in 05 or 06. I love my EB. I have only had it since last March but prior to that I had a 2000 with the 5.4 that I drove until 220,000 mi. The tranny went out. I love the Expy's.

03 Expy EB 4x4. 82k miles. No head gasket leak. Only real problem was I had to replace 4 ignition coils over the 2 years I've owned it. I don't know if that is a common problem or just a problem with mine. Other than that no realy issues. Love my Expy.
