I have a 99 F250sd and I put warn premiums on last fall but did not really use them. On the weekend of the 4th I went in the hills and locked in Just in case i need to...... I went 6 miles up hill and 6 down hill. After that is almost seemed like it did not want to unlock and after it did i heard a SNAP and some grinding ( almost like a bad axle shaft but different) Now it is gringing on the left side and it does not matter weather i break or accelerate. If the wheel is turning it is grinding. transfer case locked or not does not matter. And the yolk spins easy and smooth. It seems to start to howl and grind after a left turn. I did the brakes last fall too and the rotors and pads look great too. I cannot find an issue. I pulled the hubs and found nothing that looked suspecious or dirty. I attempted to change the hubs from Left to Right but the right hub in the left side has alot of play( like 1/2" or more). Any help would be great... BTW the guy that sold me the hubs says that the new hubs cannot be locked in and run without the transfer case being locked because the bearings in the hub cannot take all the load put on it unless locked and transfer case is locked in.
What is the condition of the bearings themselves?
This sounds like a "Unit Bearing" problem, or even a "Needle Bearing" problem.
The loose shaft might indicate needle bearings.
that not quite what i ment what i ment is... is there two pins on each caliper that hold it on... by pin i mean like there is two steel peices with rubber between them?
it was a shot in the dark... if your calipers were held on the same way mine are i would say that the grinding could be loose calipers... my truck did that but only when the hubs were locked
i got a 78 f150 on 35in. BFG MT's and i have a set of those damn things. I think ive bombed about three sets of them. I finally put my factory hubs back in and i havent had anymore problems. those things are garbage
