I am still working on this problem of no power. Buzz test was OK. Did test at harness connector, OK. Took covers off and checked wiring. Looks like it has been replaced by a pro. Everything strapped, no rubbing no cracks, all connectors fastened tight.
I replaced the filter and took it for a ride. No power until after 2K rpm, then it will take off and peg the tach real fast through all gears except o/d.
I am thinking maybe fuel pump on the frame rail. I looked at it. It looks like it has been replaced (before I bought it) There has been 60K miles put on it since.
Bad fuel pump will give you no top end, not no bottom end.
It will idle all day long but as soon as you mat the throttle and fuel demand goes up, then it falls on it's face.
What you are describing is the exact opposite.
I would check the ICP sensor and the IPR o-rings.
I think Dan is on track. A dirty/bad IPR will cause similar problems. Make sure your connections are good and clean. You could have codes stored as well.
Dan, I think I seen your photo on the post office wall here in NC.
JK, cool photo.
Kwik, it will take off, but there is no power whatsoever. If I flat metal the pedal, it should push my butt in the seat. NOT. There are no codes at all. The top is there, just Grandma can beat it there. Joe, it is a manual, when I put it in overdrive, it is like I turn the key off. It is running, but no oomph, just dead. Now it will peg the defuel sensor (96 mph) but it takes its good time at getting there. I will check the IPC and then the IPR. On top of that I am still dealing with that danged vacuum problem. Still have not found it. Guess I will be rebuilding the hubs.
Paul it really sounds to me like the HPOP pressure sensor is sending a skewed reading. Sending a too high of a signal and the computer is commanding too low of HPOP pressure. Something like that.
.
Barry, that avatar will most likely be changed this weekend. It was done for the O/T thread and everyone wanted a mug shot.
Hi Paul,
Did you ever figure out the prob? I am having the exact same issue with my 99 psd
If you could send me any info or ideas i might try, i could have a place to start please.
I still have not figured out that problem or the one with the autolock hubs.
Everything is hooked up and works individually as tested, but when putting the system together, it just goes south.
On the hubs, they will hold a constant 8 inches of vacuum individually. At the main line, the same. The pumps will pull almost 10. The switch works, but if I have the hubs on auto and nail it, the a/c goes to defrost mode. So I know something is wrong.
On the power, the problem I have now is the watered down desiel (winter blend). it makes it worse. No codes are being set, even with the BD chip. The injectors have ben buzzed. It sounds like a damn stirred up hornets nest. I have noticed one thing is that the glow plugs circuit is acting crazy. That may be the culprit and the computer has went into limp mode but won't set a code for it.
As for the vac. problem, mine was the vac. switch for the 4x4, its next to the electric vac. pump! thats after I replaced the pump, checked all vac. lines, hubs, ect. Than I found the problem! (2 weeks trying to find whats wrong, 5 min. to fix it) Those pumps aren't cheap! Well atleast I have a spare one now As for no power, do your uppipes leak bad?
Thank you,
I am having the same problem with power loss.
Did you ever look at the UVC harness?
Another site (forum post) suggested that it may be to blame - short, bad connection etc.
i am trying to see what you have tried before i go tearing into the valve covers...
thank you for the quick reply tho.

I was thinking of replacing that switch near the pump. That seems to be what I am now doing all the time. A switch here, a relay there, a sensor everywhere. Damn it is getting expensive.
With my back in the shape it is in, I cannot crawl up there to get close enough to check the uppipes. The way my luck is running, that is going to be the problem just so it will make me tear off that heavy *** turbo to fix it.
