I've been looking for a while now for a used 6.0 intercooler for my 01 7.3 and after doing some extensive Google and FTE searching I cannot find the answer to these questions. First, how is an intercooler tested in order to assure that it has no leaks? Secondly, in the event the unit does have a leak, how is it fixed or is it even fixable? Thanks much

It's been a while since I had a radiator checked for a leak and the same would be true for an intercooler. The radiator shop put it under air preassure and immersed it in a tank or water and looked for bubbles which would show air leaks. They would be the ones who could determine if it were fixable. The leak test could be a DIY.
Thanks Robin, by your answer I would take it that an intercooler is much like a radiator in many respects with the major difference being the flow of air in the IC and water in a radiator. And since it is constructed out of metal it should be repairable especially if the leak is minor in nature. Would you, or anyone else, happen to know what the air pressure is inside an intercooler during normal engine operation; just curious. thanks again
I guess we could consider 30-35 lbs the max if that is the max boost available on your rig. For mine with the mods including the Turbo Master the max boost is 28 on the gauge. So, knowing that if we pressurize it to 35 and it doesn't leak we are good to go.
