I got the cam out this evening. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be either. Talking to a guy today about it and he suggested that since the engine was on a stand, to just flip it upside down and pulling the cam. Normally, if an engine is upright, like in the truck, you have to use a method of putting 1/2" dowel pins into the lifters then pull the lifters up with the dowels and secure them up so they don't fall down. With the engine upside down, I didn' have to mess with any of that. So I drained the oil, flipped it, and it worked like a charm. One thing I did notice, this new engine sure is clean! I've got to get the gear pressed off the stock cam tomorrow and then can get it on the new cam and put it all back together.

Also, when I got it turned upside down, I noticed some scratches on the oil pan, so I'm going to pull it off and give it a fresh coat of paint. Last thing I would want is that thing rusting once it's already in the truck!

I also got an email today that my headstuds and ATS exhaust manifold should be here tomorrow. Over the weekend I'm hoping to get the new cam in, headstuds installed, manifold put on and the new turbo mounted up. After that, I'll just be waiting on injectors.

Oh, and I'm sure giving rides won't be a problem. I'll be excited once this thing is done and more than willing to share.

Ken, It'll probably cost me around $10K in conversion parts and modification stuff, and I paid $6K for my engine.

Paint or powdercoat? If you've got the equipment, I've got the powder (from Eastwood) in black that I'd be glad to send you.

I appreciate the offer, but I don't have the equipment for powdercoat. I think that since I'm basically just touching up a few spots and not taking it down to bare metal, it should be ok.

Jeremy- this will work out great, once you get yours done, you'll be more than experienced with it to help me put one in my truck. You're not that far, I'm sure it could be done in a weekend!
I have some family there in Columbia, I just might have to go down and visit them sometime. I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to find a Ford with a Cummins pulling it!
