I have a 1994 ford f250, I just rebuilt the 351 engine. I also rebuilt the c6 tranny. Everything worked great for 2 days but now the tranny slips and I cant always get it into drive unless I rev it a little. Also the tranny clunks or sounds like something’s in it when I rev the engine in neutral. ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS (could it be the torque converter I put it on wrong the first time and had it binding to where the engine wouldn’t even turn over.)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> Thanks<o></o>
Why would it happen now 2 days later. I think I forgot to say I rebuilt the tranny. Anyways Iam not sure why it would happen 2 days later like I said it was working perfect. Would a lose in oil presure make this happen????
If you tweaked the tc, you could have caused a crack or bend that would become worse while running. More force applied makes it worse every time it is loaded. Pull it apart before it comes apart.
> I cant always get it into drive unless I rev it a little
I have to assume you mean you can put it into drive, but, it does not go anywhere unless you rev the engine. To me that says damaged TQ or fluid leak/loss somewhere, in any vehicle.
hey guys thanks for all the tips. When I drop the pan If I find metal shavings whats this mean? Also If I dont find shavings is it most likely the torque converter?
As for it being the convertor, not likely.
But if the pump is toast the convertor could follow suit.
Did you tighten the valve body bolts correctly?
Did you tighten the banana plate after the 2 halves were bolted together?
Did you install a gasket under the separator plate?
If so did you match the holes?
Once you get the pan and valve body off you can apply the various components using compressed air.

I would drop the pan and look for metal.
Having to rev it to get it to engage sounds most likely that he missed the forward piston inner seal and/or the wear it causes.
But binding it that badly could have caused pump, converter, or other internal damage that could have taken a day or two to fail completely.
Like the USMC Drill instructor said.....STOP, GET BACK, DO IT AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT!!!!!!!
Ex-wifes girl lent out her bowtie 4x to a friend and he brought it back at 2 mph ... Rebuilt the tranny 3 times before I figured out it was the converter ...
