05 Explorer rear brake help!

I planned on taking my rear rotors in to get them turned this morning, but I cannot get them released from the parking brake shoes. I can find no adjustment anywhere to back off the parking brakes, no access hole, no star wheel. All there is is a cable coming from the front with a spring on a shoe clamp levers, I am thinking about trying to take the spring off. Does anyone know if there is an adjustment to these brakes??

There are knockouts in the backingplates to access the parking brake adjusters. Be sure to get plugs from the parts store to cover them afterwards.

OK, thanks, I see what looks like a knock out on the bottom inside, but I tapped on it and looks like I am going to need a hand sledge and punch to get it out, it is pretty thick steel.

Just curious, why are you having the rear rotors turned? Are they warped or scored?

I gave up on trying to get them off, I cannot knock out the parking brake adjustment cover without creating more damage than I want to to the rest of the plate. I wanted to get them turned because I turned the fronts and I still get a braking pulsating. I have bleed all the lines and installed new brake pads. The old ones wore evently.

Now I have a new problem, I think the rear parking brake shoe is now hanging up and rubbing while driving. That wheel gets hot and smells like brake shoe and also squeeks when backing up slowly. I may have bent something when I was trying to "persuade" the rotor off. Does anyone have any ideas what I could look at? I don't want to give up and take it in after I have invested so much of my own time, I really want to solve this problem.

Update. I removed the wheel with rear end jackstanded, it was hard to turn wheel by hand. Removed the caliper and it is easy to move by hand, so the parking brake is not hanging up. The Left rear caliper is rubbing the rotor too hard, that is what is causing my heat. I removed the pads from the caliper and the cylinder is moving fine. The pads seem to move freely in the caliper when off the rotor. What could be causing the pads to rub the rotor when the brake pedal isn't being pressed?

Anyone?

I bleed the entire system, now at least I have new fluid in it, but my pads are still running too hot, I can smell them everytime I park the explorer.
