2003 V10 w/ 86,xxx miles.
First off I'm not bitching about the gas mileage just trying to figure a few things out. My MPG computer reads 8.7 & no matter how I drive it doesn't really change. Once after about an hour ride on the highway averaging about 75mph it jumped up to 8.8 mpg.
I'm working with a Torque converter company that built a low stall multi clutch converter for the Diesels that's suppose to give a 20% increase on gas mileage. We are going to use my V10 as a "test dummy" for the gas motor so I'm trying to get a exact MPG so we have a starting point.
Thanks for any info.
My Lie-O-Meter usually reads around 17.3 mpg's and is within 1 mpg of the hand calculated mpg.............. Welcome to the world of a gas guzzling V-10!! I know my friends 03 V-10 gets 8-9 mpg's on a regular basis in town driving. Sounds normal from what I have seen! I used to have a 7.4 454 GMC 2500 and it got 11 mpg's if I floored it all the time, feathered the gas pedal or towed it was always 11............
Last week I did a trip to SD (275-ish miles), I reset the lie-o-meter when we took off, I showed 18.2 for a little while, but by the time I got home, it showed 17.9 for the round trip. I consider that not to bad for a vehicle the size of the X. Round town I show the 8-9. YMMV...
my computer always shows 12 mpg ... trip from watauga tn to orlando fl (860 miles ) i checked by hand and came up with 15.3 ( 7 passengers and luggage ) around town 13.8 if i watch my driving. pulling my camper ( fleetwood prowler lynx 29 bh ) i get 9 something.
I'm taking the truck to New Jersey this weekend where gas is about 30-35 cents cheaper then here in NY so I'll fill it up there & calulate. I guess that's the best way.
Around town I get 10.5 hand calculated. Mixed town and highway is about 12.6 and the other day I did a 100 mile highway run and got 15.6 and that was going 75 most of the time. I tried to hold the RPM's at 2,000. We are driving to Vegas in 2 weeks so I am interest to see what we get, unfortunatly it wont be accurate because I am putting on bigger tires.
It sounds like you need a reset. Put it in the MPG mode. Press both buttons on the device for a couple of seconds until it reads "AVG". It will start fresh from there.
I don't know why people fret around so much with averaging out their gas mileage. It's very simple math and very easy to calculate. Do the following.....
1- Stop and fill up the Excursion. Put in as much as you can. If the pump stops on $88.12 -- try to squeeze in $88.50
2- Drive around until you read 1/2 tank, and then head for another fillup.
3- Go to same gas station, try to use same pump, with your vehicle parked identical to last fillup. Again, put 30 to 40 cents more in after the pump kicks off.
4- If it now takes 20.6 gallons to fill it up, and you have gone 195 miles.....
195 miles divided by 20.6 gallons = 9.466 mpg.
This 9.446 mpg average is as close as anybody ever needs to get.
VAsherrif you are correct, it is very simple to figure out!!!
Now I have never heard of someone trying the same pump and parked the same way. OCD??? Just teasing!!!
My MPG is what it is and I can either complain or enjoy the X for what it is!!!
Today a mother asked me what my MPG was and I told her my city and highway and she was PISSED... Her dodge caravan gets 11 city and 14 highway if she is lucky. I just laughed...
Though I am happy with the mileage that I get out of my2002 Ex v-10 13.5 around town and almost 17 on the highway. I just put gas in when it needs it. Just wearing blinders to the amount of gas I buy. I drove my suburban 75k miles last year. It definitely does better than my old suburban and I get to do the speed limit pulling my boat without really knowing it is behind us.
