Can you fix rusty chrome wheels or are they shot? The ones on my 84 project have been sitting so long that the chrome is rusted through in several spots along curves and ridges. Is there anything I cna do other than toss them? Painting would be ok if it can be done. Anybody else with this problem? Thanks.
You can send them to a wheel restoration place, and they'll take care of the entire refinishing/rechroming process. It is costly, however, and really isn't worth it when you can just buy new/reproduction ones at a fraction of the cost.
Alternatively, if you can get all the chrome off and bring it down to steel there's no reason you can't paint it.
EDIT: You can also powdercoat them as texyank suggested, but the problem I've found with that is that oftentimes the powdercoating will begin to flake and then the wheels will look ugly, especially if it's an especially dark or especially bold color.
