F500

I just found a 48 F500 on craigslist real reasonable, and had a couple questions. Are the fenders bigger on the F500 than on the 1/2 ton trucks? And what about the frames on them? This one is a dually so is the frame bigger in height than a half ton? Could you put a mustang II front end on it? Was thinking of making it a hot rod truck but wasn't for sure on the chassis situation.

First and foremost, welcome to FTE!

Now then, on to your questions. Yes, the fenders on an F-500 have larger openings than the F-100. I believe the frames are also heavier, but I don't know for sure. Someone who can be certain will be along shortly, I'm sure.

Personally, I'd suggest maybe keeping it a big truck. There are tons of F-100s floating around, the bigger trucks seem far less common.

A '48 would be an F-5. Frame would be heavier by far than an F-1. These might have had GVW of 12,000 or better. Probably has a 7.00 x 20 tire on it.

We had a couple of F-6s, the F-5 is just a little down from those.
