Hey guys! I having a problem with my A/C(R134a system) on my 1994 F-150(4.9L). Recently I noticed my A/C wasn't very cold in comparison to other cars. So I decided I would check it out. Well i hooked up my metering device and noticed it was high on the low pressure side, approx 70lbs of pressure. I understood this to be to much so I released a little. Well I ended up releasing to much. So I bought a new bottle of R134a and my A/C only accepted about half of the bottle. I turn on the A/C and the darn thing wasn't as cold as it was before I started monkeying around with it. So I discharged the hole thing and tried refilling it and this time it only accepted 1 and 1/2 cans of freon. Of course now it only blows hot air and Max A/C. I took it to a local garage and the mechanic told me there wasn't enought freon in the system. I told him I couldn't put anymore in. He was stumped as to what the problem is. Also the accumulator isn't getting cold and the condensor keeps kicking on and off! Any ideas as to what's going wrong?!?
Oh I forgot to add something! When I did try charging the system and I let it set after a 10 mile drive the low pressure side was reading a pressure of 100ilbs. Something is wrong right? Show the low pressure side be showing this much pressure right after I turn of the engine!
It sounds like your compressor may be bad. Do you have a way of reading high side pressure and low side pressure at the same time? If so repost with those pressure readings. Give me what you have with engine off and then engine running at fast idle for a few minutes. It is possible that you cannot get a full load of freon if the orfice tube is pluged real bad. Yes it is normal for low side static pressure to be near 100 psi when its hot outside.
While the truck isn't running I get a pressure of 120lbs at the low pressure side vavle. With the air condition on at Max Cool I get damn near no pressure at all but the A/C won't get cold. I can't measure the high side as I have no tool. The problem is the system won't take more the 1 and 1/2 cans of R134a. I just can't get anymore in system. The low pressure side valve doesn't seem to be clogged.
Sorry I couldn't provide you with more info Nitro94, but hey thanks for trying to help me out! This gives me a reason to get another tool without getting in trouble from my other half!
