I have just bought a 76 Short bed F-100. I am going to be racing it the rest of this season but come winter I want to build it up and would like to make it look like......well almost like what it would have looked like if Ford would have built something like the Lightning in 1976.
In the 70's things were out there with paint scemes so the low key look of today wont get the job done. What were some of the "special" trucks built back then? I am thinking that since this was the Bi-Centinial there must have been some kind of "Package" even if it was just paint and stripes.
If you have old ads or anything showing what these looked like please post them. Thanks for anything you can come up with
For an "out there" paint and stripe job that would be correct for the period, I'd look into the Free Wheeling trucks. I'm pretty sure they offered thos packages in '76..I know they at least had them some years between 73-79. Some of those had really wild stripes. They were decals then, which I'm sure you could no longer get, but a good vinyl guy could make you some, or you could get them painted on. Those truck also came with blacked-out bumpers and (I think) a sport steering wheel...other cool options if you're going to have it on the track.
You're right, there was a bicentenial truck in 1976 too. The only ones I've seen just had a special badge on the fender.
That's cool--I don't know if I ever saw the eagle decal before.
I just noticed that some brochures for the Free Wheeling trucks I mentioned have been posted in another thread titled "1977 F250 Ranger 460 Trailer Special 2wd".
Here:
The same ad-Bigger.
1976 Ford Paint Colors.
1976 Ford Operators Manual Heavy Duty & Light Duty.
1976 Ford Color Paint Schemes.
-Sorry its so hard to read,it was re sized if you want a bigger size,Just E-Mail me
These two were not re sized-They are tiny I cant help you there.
I cant post the rest of 'em as my photo bucket's not working right now
I will maybe post 'em later OK?
I hope this helped you.

Huh,I wonder who posted those? (It was me)
And yes there are a lot more I didn't post because of the size.
Ranger 429's concept is what came to my mind first also, but it will be a challenge (but not impossible) for a painter to duplicate.
I also think the various mustang schemes (boss, mach 1, sidewinder, etc.) would be cool, or the '69 torino cobra jet color-fade stripe.
What? Hate to burst your bubble kid but it wasn't you. You posted the exact same thing as I did AFTER me. We all know you are the new "literature king" you don't have to point it out to us.
Look at the names in the post on the left hand side and you could figure it out. Jolly Green posted then I had posted the bicenntenial ad then Jolly Green posted again and THEN you posted a bunch of literature that has nothing to do with the threads concept or original question.
If your going to be the new "literature king" try and resize your ads to the proper size so one does not need a 30" viewing monitor!

I did,I just cant re size them enough so that they are readable?
Then don't post them! Put a link up for them. There is nothing worse than having to scroll across a screen to read a thread and have a bunch of useless literature wasting space.
Very cool idea! I someday would like to build up a shortbox-then build up my mock 351 Boss! It's tough having engines laying around-but I can't justify selling them.
I have a 72' 351C Cobra Jet 4 bolt main block, and a set of 70' 351C 4V heads and other goodies to make a complete engine-after a full overhaul of course.
One day!
I think it's funny how the one ad brags about how the drip rails will prevent window seal leaks. Little did they know of all the rust issues we'd be fighting 30 years later because of those drip rails!
