Did you use teflon on the brass fittings going into the tru-cool? Im doing it right now and the directions dont say anything about it?
Yeah, I used the teflon tape on the brass fittings... no leaks! I just finished driving around and checking/adding tranny fluid this afternoon. Total of 2 quarts I had to add, it might have been low to begin with though, I did check it when I picked up the truck (I just got it not long ago) and it was on the low side then but still within the OK range.
I just finished. I only had to add just under 1 quart. The install was easy!! 4 bolts, 2 brackets, drilled two holes, used two screws...mounted. Then connect the lines from the old aftermarket cooler and DONE!! As soon as I started the truck I could feel the warm fluid flowing into the right side and through to the exit side, which was cooler by A LOT! No leaks, so it is a success!
Thanks for everyones input! I will post new temps after I drive to work tomorrow.
Nice install!! Looks good looking through the grill at a nice new peice of aluminum. I mounted mine alittle lower just to hide the oil line and the air flowing over the bumper would flow right to the cooler.
What kind of temps you seeing ? bypass leaking? I would think any cooler you add in addition should show some sort of change in lowering temperature to an extent.
I know this falls within what Mark K says is normal but I am running pretty close to 100 over ambient when pulling a 9000 lb TT. Seems on the high side though it never seems to go over 200 degrees. Sorry about this hijack Biohazardman. I have not tested the bipass by the way. Will have to look up that procedure.
