The 30 amp fuse to the blower motor in my 73 F350 keeps burning out. I originally thought it had to do with the air conditioning but it blows out in the heating mode as well.Is there any way to check the blower fan when it is in the truck, or is the problem possibly elsware?Any help is appreciated.
If it runs a little then blows while driving then you have a grounded wire. If it blows right when you switch it on then you could have a bad motor or a bad wire past the switch. Check the wires where they enter the motor. Also is the fuse sized right? and is there anything in the circuit that shouldn't be there (CB, Stereo, lights, etc)? Is there something that is keeping the fan from turning? Did something fall into the duct or is the fan seazed and won't turn?
Zoo,the fan motor runs for about 2 minutes every time then blows the fuse. I put in one of those 30 amp breaker fuses and it does the same thing. nothing else other than the stock items are on the circuit. After about 5 minutes the breaker fuse comes back on and the whole thing starts all over again. how do you find out if there is a short in the system? Thanks for the help.
When electric motors get old the become dirty. Carbon on the commutator is the likliest cause. You need to remove the motor and have it rebuilt or try to clean and replace the bad parts yourself. It is very simple but you have to know what to look for. When the motor becomes dirty it pulls more electricity and overheats and then of course pops your fuse.
When Rebuilding:
1)Clean commutator grooves with a fine wire or something else.
2)Clean commutator with 180 sandpaper until shiney.
3)Clean and repack all bearings/bushings.
4)Install new brushes.
