Injector info

Ok,so I'm kinda a dummy when it comes to the actual operation of a PSD.I just got three new injectors, two harnesses and a something sensor while I was on vacation..I have a very good after market warranty that wouldn't cover any of it but it does say that it covers any lubricated part. What I was wondering was are the injectors lubricated by oil or not. Someone told me that I should have the HPOP checked and maybe changed as they will break down after a while and not lub the injectors enuff..Just what i9s the HPOP and what does it do.

I did post this in the Excursion forum and they suggested that I put it here. The rig in question is an '01 7.3L with 110K on the engine.. Oh,and it is doing the yammering thing again and doesn't seem to have as much power. It ran great for a day and a half and then started up again..

There is a lot I can post here but yammering thing needs more explanation. The more specific you can be, the better the possibility someone has seen it before. Welcome.

BTW, I suspect you mean hammering. How long has this gone on? Again means happened before, what fixed it, etc.

There was a clicking sound, kinda like a bad lifter in a gas engine and then after we pulled off the freeway and tried to go from the stop sign,it was hammering and the "X" was shuddering.I got to an RV park and gopt the trailer dropped and the next day took it to a dealer almost next door. As I said, they replaced the 3 injs,2 harn and a sensor and the warranty wouldn't cover the injector system..I also got chargerd for 12 hours and they had the car for a bit less than 6 and the injectors were 1-3-5..It ran ok after it was fixed and then started hammering a bit and when it wasn't doing that it did click..I am wondering about the engine lube part for the warranty part.

They'll skip right out of the lube part of the warranty. No way to prove that. I am curious about the clicking and hammering. Might want to check the fuel pump pressure though they should have done that.

Injectors are driven by oil pressure (Hydraulic Electric Unit Injection, or HEUI). Maybe that will fly with your insurance.......... doubt it though.

Sounds like you took it to a dealer that just threw parts at it and over-charged you.

Well,I took the baby in for a LOF,check the fuel filter and the fuel pump pressure. The fuel filter was nasty and the fuel pump checked out @ 60#s.. When I started it up,it ran rough,so I went back in and got the diesel tech that had worked on it and we went for a ride.. His opinion was that, yes, there was a problem and that I should bring it back in ASAP for an injector test..SOooo,tomorrow PM she goes back into the shop.. Now,you gotta remember, this is not the same Ford garage that did the previous work.. Now we'll se if mebbee they just threw a few parts at it and got me out of there. I ran the invoice by the parts guy and the price difference was + #129 for the whole bill, but they agreed that the 12 hours labor was about 2 times what it should have been.. They charged me book price for all three injectors individually..

Let us know how things turn out. If you're not doing the work yourself, one of the advantages of FTE is to talk through the problems so you can ask the techs the right questions, and approve the proper repairs. Since they didn't have to remove your valve cover 3 times to change some injectors that were next to each other, they should have given you a break on the labor. We don't call them stealerships for no reason.

Now since it doesn't sound like your issue is part of the lube system warranty, are you sure you want to visit another dealer instead of finding a qualified independent shop? A scan for codes and an injector buzz test do sound like a good idea. If 1,3, 5 or 7, come back weak, I'd really start inspecting the wiring since the passenger side seems to be the one affected. Also check the age and level of your motor oil. Since the injectors are fired off of motor oil, clean, full oil of the proper grade is very important.

Does your paperwork tell you what codes they pulled to replace the 3 injectors? You said they replaced 2 wiring harnesses. Does this mean the under valve cover harness (UCVH) on each side? Can you tell us what sensor they replaced? If they have to go back under your valve covers for any reason make them re-torque the rocker arm pedestals and injector hold down bolts.

Can you give us any better description of your symptoms? Maybe we can offer suggestions you can share with the mechanic.
