got an appointment for next mon. to have my gears changed out,I originally was going to go with 4:56's but after some talk with the guy at the axle and driveshaft shop he thinks I should go with 4:30's,my tires are 265/75/16 and staying that size, now if I was to go with the 4:56 gears and it would be to much gear then I would consider slightly larger tires.the reasoning for the gear swap is I pull an 8000lb or so camper and I want more pull for hills,so which gear do you guys think I should go with.
i agree with heavy metal i have your same set up except f350 with 35" tires my travel trailer is about 8500lbs. and i have no problems.i do hills maybe once or twice a year.(long island is pretty much flat.)4:30's will be great for the inclines.
2006 F250SD, extra cab, 4.10 diff and I pull a 30-foot 5th wheel with a combined weight of 16,000 pounds. I can climb most grades at 50 mph and 2,800 rpm. Average mpg in hills and on flat is 9.5 towing and 10 when not towing. This setup max's at 21,000 pounds. I don't think that you need a 4.30 diff.

You also have a '06. About 75 more HP and 80 ft.lbs. more TQ.
Get 4.30s. I run 4.56 with 35" tires and 4.30s are great for your application.
the shop did work up a price for me of $1900.00 this includes new seals and bearings in the back rear, just ring and pinion up front unless anything else is needed.the shop doing the job is a very reputable driveshaft and axle shop, that's all they do.I will report back with the exact final tally once the truck is done.
