I think bigken has the right idea. Contact your local VFW and American Legion post and ask for someone to go talk to him. Listening to advice and encouragement from someone who has "been there" will go a lot further than words from a civilian.
Unfortunately it sounds like the chain of command has failed in this case. This should have been dealt with on the local level and addressed before it had to be run up the chain.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope you find someone he is willing to open up to. Sharing his thoughts will go a long way in correcting the problem.

Rebel, you son has my prayers tonight. Let that Kansas gang get with him when he is released or on home guard and like someone mentioned, get an older vet there to talk and be with him through this trial. With the FTE Gang behind him, he has a lot of support.
I just thought of something for you guys. Its a website they've been giving us for a few years now for soldiers and families. militaryonesource.com I've never actually been there myself. However, every briefing I've attended say its like a one stop shop for soldiers and families.

Thank You Neil my wife called the big guns today to get more help for one of our sons.
He or you can go to the support services for help froma doctor. I was a First seargent in the begining of this war and had a few that I helped when we came back. There are a bunch of returning vets that are having problems with what they did and saw while there. You have made the right first move by getting him to a doctor now, the most important thing is for him to open up and tell them what is bothering him which is a hard thing for a hrd core young man to do.
