could you guys explain all this to me ? Is there something I am missing..? Or am I just lucky? I do a lot of night driving, and have YET to have to replace a headlight bulb. EVER ....(and I have this sneaky suspicion I am a trace older, and have driven just a few more years than most, if not all of you guys).

Ooops...told a lie..my apologies. Forgot - back around '56, when driving a truck on old U.S. Highway 66, a rock flew up from the truck ahead of me (damn illegal bastid..he didn't have mud flaps) and broke a headlight - had to go into a Pep Boys and buy one...

Well, anyway, folks, I have a Ford Excursion that came equipped with headlights. I have found that if I set the headlight controller on the "automatic" position, they both come on..EVERY time. And they are nice and bright and light up the road. I even adjusted them correctly so they dont shine in opposing traffic's eyes when on low beam.

Should I be watching these headlights for signs of failure ? Is there something dangerous about them ? Do they project dangerous radiation out the back of their shells that would cause me to loose my "abilities" with the ladies...? What's the deal here ? Why should I be interested in changing the headlights they sold me when I bought my Excursion...?

LOL, its just a personal preference I choose to upgrade my headlights, they are starting to turn colour. I drive with my high beams on all the time and don't get anyone flashing me so the headlights are part of my truck upgrades then everything else in my sig.
........ they are starting to turn colour. .......

O..K. THAT MAKES SENSE. DIDN'T THINK OF THAT. MY CARS SPEND MOST OF THEIR LIVES INDOORS, WHERE MY STUFF DONT FADE. NOW I UNDERSTAND....YEAH, WISH HEADLIGHT LAMP LENSES WERE STILL GLASS. BUT YOU ARE RIGHT. SEEMS THEY ARE ALL PLASTIC THESE DAYS.

I drive with my high beams on all the time and don't get anyone flashing me .......

If people are NOT "flashing" you, then it sounds to me like your hi beams must be mis-adjusted so badly that they are aimed so close to your truck that they aren't doing their job. I recommend you re-adjust them so that your low beams are doing THEIR job, and thus your HIGH beams would be avail. for THEIR job when you are on deserted roads....
===============================================
Sad to say there are "wise guys" who think it is "cute" to have super-bright headlamps on HIGH beams. They either dont know or dont care that getting blasted in the eyes at night with super-intense lights on HIGH beam, is ESTREMELY dangerous.

Fortunately, here in Arizona, we dont have that problem very often, as "word is out" that it is bad manners to do that. I "run" Interstate 40 at night from time to time; my impression is most everyone is pretty courteous regarding hi beams.

Our DOT/Highway Patrol guys are very helpful on this. When they catch people running with high beams on, they stop them and invite them to turn them to "lo" beam when coming up to opposing traffic.

If they think you are a "wise guy" and/or they spot illegal lighting equipment on an Arizona-registered vehicle, the truck is impounded and towed to the nearest impound yard, where you can recover it after paying impound, towing fees, AND whatever the smart alec wants to charge you for converting the vehicle back to legal headlamps. If you are OUT of state, they MAY, depending on your attitude, give you a "one bite" "grace" period to find some other state to be a jerk in.

Its called a MODIFICATION!!! Personal preference!!! Some do not like the Original lights and choose to change them out. And when the time comes and you loose your "abilities" blame it on age NOT Ford...

i upgraded mine to the 05+style because i like them better than the older style. after that i added the projector hid's from a range rover into mine. since the projector is so much more accurate than any reflector housing, i never get flashed. i love the performance of the hid's but i am not a fan of the hid kits. BUT, i did get the 55watt hid kit from sharpHID and i installed them in my fogs. thos being a reflector housing, they do throw the light all over the place. dont really have to use them that much unless i am on a dark road with no traffic. and being that they are aimed low, i still have never gotten flashed while using my bright hid fogs.

Thanks! After speaking to some of the folks here I decided to go with these instead of the HID, I haven't tested them out on the road yet but they seem bright and I love the LEDs.

To take the old ones off wasn't difficult but that 1 black clip is a pain and to put those 2 screws back was also a pain, they kept dropping. hehehe!

Otherwise its easy upgrade.

Looks good. Be interested to hear what you think of the output. I'm still not happy with mine and might convert them to HIDs or something - added additional fogs to supplement but probably am just spoiled as we have awesome lighting in our other newer vehicles. Last time I drove this of any distance was in December in the hills of West VA and it was tennuous as best between the curves in the road and the inclement weather.

They look good no doubt but lastnight I went on the road I know they need aligning but the lighting seems poor. Here is the lighting against the garage door.

Go to the PIAA website and match their product with the part numbers in the manual for bulb replacement. They have many different varities as well as different "k" ratings (temperature) which will provide the "HID" effect for a fraction of the cost and they fit in the regular bulb housing....the best replacement / upgrade bulbs available IMHO.....
