The following includes the FORD letters.
D3TZ-99405A34-A .. Center Tailgate Finish Panel-Black / 1973/79
D6TZ-99405A34-A .. Center Tailgate Finish Panel-Brown / 1976 only
D7TZ-99405A34-A .. Center Tailgate Finish Panel-Orange / 1977/79
D9TZ-99405A34-B .. Center Tailgate Finish Panel-Orange & Black / 1979 only.
Parts catalog doesn't say which panels were used on what, and I don't recall. so please don't ask.
Maybe it's just me, but that 73 F250 Camper Special (brown and dented) looks like a different gate from the others. I'm assuming it was a carry-over from the previous model year? Looks to have a different stamping to it than all of the others (which all look the same to me...just different trim options).

I'm assuming it was a carry-over from the previous model year? It's not original for a 1973/79, it's a 1967/72 tailgate that someone put it on there.

Did the bumpside tailgate fit the dentside?
Yes, because that's what that brown tailgate is: C7TZ-9940700-A / Fits: 1967/72 F100/350's.
And...
Ford replaced the F100/250 ** 1964/66 Styleside tailgate (C4TZ-9940700-A) in 9/1966 for use as a service part replacement (parts sold at parts counters), with the 1967 (1967/72) tailgate.
So the 1967/72 tailgate also fits 1964/66's.
** 1961/66 F350's, 1961/65 F100 4WD's and 1961/66 F250 4WD's used the 1957/60 Styleside bed, which uses still another tailgate.

Found on some Freewheeling packages.
There is no mention of the upper and lower narrow trim pieces, or the trim around the handle opening. The lower piece shown in pic #2, and The upper piece shown in the last picture in the first post. These were used on Tu-tone option trucks, and Ranger. While just the lower piece was used on Ranger XLT or Lariat, because the wide upper molding D3TZ-99405A34-B took it's place etc.
I'm with you on all of these except I think the '79 only orange and black is actually the Indy truck trim (or maybe it was both Indy and Freewheelin). What do you think?

Orange/Black = Indy truck for sure, don't recall what the Free Wheelin' package used.

The Indy Truck slipped my mind. Yes indeed the orange and black was used on the indy truck.
The freewheeling trucks used the orange one when they had the optional "sunset" striping, that can be seen here. Of course you cant see the tailgate in this brochure.
I'll skim through the search engine and see if I can't get a rear view of a Freewheeling truck to look at. They were very good looking trucks in their day.
I love this info....I have wondered for years about the various trim and such used on the 73-9 gates...Ive got a bronze/white one thats nearly good enough to be called a NTTO piece...
81 F150...excellent info...thanks very much. It helps a bit in figuring out which is more common and so on as Im always scouting good Ford t/gates in my local wrecking yards.
Bill and the numbers..what more can be said that hasnt already :-)
