Rattle-need help

I was driving down the highway going about 75 mph when a rattle started on the drivers side. It sounded like it was coming from the mirror, but I think it is coming from somewhere else on that side. It makes a rattle noise for a while then stops for a while. If their is a good cross wind it seems to start again. I thought someone else had a similar issue and that this is a common thing. I have a 2007 KR Screw 4x4 with 20K miles. I plan on taking it in, but rattles never occur when the tech is sitting in the truck.

no solid idea, and rattles are not common

some things to check

1. your fender flares
2. the mirror itself
3. wheel center caps (might have a rock in there)
4. plastic trim (cowl, bed sides)
5. look at the air intake box (drivers side). there is a little section of plastic that slips through a hole into the fender

I don't know of this is the same "rattle" but I have a 04 F150 4X4 FX4 and it has this rattle from underneath, but only when i step on the gas. I was told it was either the catylc converter or else the transfer case. I sure hope that they ford warranty covers the transfer case if such is the cause as I was told it would be quite costly! I've only had the truck for 5 months! Let me know what you come up with for your 'rattle"

cannot be the t-case. the majority of the t-case lies motionless unless you switch to 4x4. The only rotating parts are the input shaft from transmission and the output shaft to the rear axle...and I'm fairly certain they are on a common shaft

if it ends up being the t-case, just shop around. I've bought a few of them for my older trucks about $100. the install is easy as well

could be the cats though. but you would hear them rattling most of the time. the cats are covered under a 7yr/100k (i think...regardless, a really long lasting warranty) warranty. have the dealership look them over. never know

Thanks muchly! I have spoke with the Ford dealer here and they ran my VIN to see what warranty if any was left on the truck and I was told there wasn't any existing warranty left..Strange Eh? But I will take it in to see if it is the cats (big relief if that's all it is) Appreciate your help!

the truck itself isn't under warranty, but the EPA makes the manufacturers warranty the emissions for so many years...usually is about 7-10 yrs
