Well now that I am finally retired and just want to have fun I can't afford to drive my truck nearly as much as I'd like too. With diesel at $4.93 around here, one place got me for $4.99 on our way back from a prospecting trip I decided to park my truck and just drive it a little bit every couple of weeks just to keep things stirred up and wait for my occasional trip every two or three months. Bummer.
Same here. Im going out tomorrow to look at a focus. Eventually it will pay off. Any word how the 08 focus is? Its better you kept it - theres no resale value anymore since we get raped at the pump.
Congrats on the retirement, i know what you mean, used to go out for family drives just to get out of the house, not no more. Consolidating trips now. Now thinking of getting a cheap heap.
In the past year my fuel bill for the business has more than doubled per month. Have been passing some on to the customer but haveto absorb some of it also. Not easy to do either.
Just think in two months you'll have cheap fuel in the tank,I have cheap fuel haven't filled up in almost two months my self.driving the escort my cheap heap.
Congrats on the retirement. I know what you mean. I don't drive my truck very much at all these days, not like before. I will just take the wife's F150 except when it involves a trip to Lowes for lumber, or other big stuff that does not fit well in her bed.
I am glad I have a company car or I might have to consider another ride for economical reasons. I doubt I will ever get rid of my F350. Probably going to be buried in it as fuel will be so high nobody will want it.
How true. I started that trip with a tank of $2.78 fuel from a couple of months ago and finished off with the $4.99. I really hate to think of what the next fill up will be.
We have a little Mazda 3 Touring 5 Door that zooms pretty good and gets 25 mpg in town and now its my main ride. Its the only way I can justify letting my large car sit so long.

I hear you on that! That, along with the huge increase in material cost the last three years has taken a bite out my bottom line also.
I've been driving my Sable a lot more lately, but I hate having my head at bumper height with all the other trucks and SUV's on the road.
The last time i seen 2.78 a gallon was 3 years ago, not around here anyways and when we were down in VA. on vacation. I fell your pain though as well as my family for vacation purpose,s.
if you do the math, sometimes you are better off with a $1000 car getting a little less mpg....sometimes older toyota's are real cheap and realy decent on gas. may not look like much but if lower $/mile is your goal....hard to beat a dirt cheap vehicle thats paid for and cheap to insure.
Here in Australia, we've hit $1.99/litre, which equates to about $9/gallon. Luckily I have always a a cheaper vehicle to run around in, but even thats not cheap anymore.
I worked out that it cost around $40 to travel 60 miles in my F250
Yeah, I just got my F250 a month ago... Not really planing on driving it too much except to pull the 5th wheel we just got and to do some hunting in. Most of my buddies are like "glad it's you filling it up and not me" or whatever but I tell them it doesn't hurt as much when it's PAID FOR ( I payed cash) and laugh at them for having a vehicle payment. Oh well... it is getting expensive though, and I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel either!
Wife's car is a 07 Fusion (Focus big brother) real nice for a mid size sedan. Good fuel economy. bout 25 city, 30 hwy. Little four banger, doesn't have the get up and move the diesel's or my V6 Mustang did, but cheap on gas. The fusions are suppose to be pretty competitive with the imports for quality and such. bought mine April 07 and was <20k after you figure interest on financing. Doesn't have a lot of accessories, but good enough to get from point a to point b. I'll have it paid for before it dies. I drive my cars till their dead on the side of the road.

Welcome to FTE, yes, it cost money, but if it,s paid for, do the math?
You gotta PAY to PLAY! I love my F-350 and even though I hate the increase in the fuel bill, I still love to drive it. I really try not to look at the rising cost, as it is always going to go up,... to me it just detracts from the enjoyment of driving our rigs. I would way rather pay to drive my truck that I enjoy to drive than drive something that gives me NO pleasure in driving, such as my wardens Dodge Shadow. NO WAY!
