Yes i understand. While my 02 has never been my daily driver, the fuel thing is a disaster. I bought it for hunting and towing the Boston Whaler. It has become a mental thing for me too as i just cant justify the fuel cost just to catch a few trout.
I still think the fuel prices will have to correct some, but they will never get real cheap again. But i think t he big picture is what is happening to the economy becasue of fuel prices, not that I cant go anywhere.
I still use my old 87 Ranger 4 banger for my daily driver. Gets pretty good mpg and saves the miles on the big truck. Besides, i didnt buy the powerstroke to go to work with. I dont like to taint my hunting and fishing truck like that!
Well now that I am finally retired and just want to have fun I can't afford to drive my truck nearly as much as I'd like too. With diesel at $4.93 around here, one place got me for $4.99 on our way back from a prospecting trip I decided to park my truck and just drive it a little bit every couple of weeks just to keep things stirred up and wait for my occasional trip every two or three months. Bummer.
Drill here...Drill now...Pay Less
I just retired...To be able to drive my truck whenever I want, I picked up a two-night a week driving job...puts $500 in my pocket and I don't care what they charge - I'll drive my truck when I want.
I like Diesel but I did get rid of my 94 F350 and bought a 04 F150 4.2 which is pretty decent on gas. I just miss the diesel is all, and there are plenty of upgrades to do to them, but something has to be done about our fuel costs.
I'm glad I have a Jetta TDI. It is still a diesel, but it gets 33 mpg stomping the throttle, shifting at 2500 rpm from stoplight to stoplight and 50 mpg on the highway.
The truck only gets started when I need it anymore.
I gotta be honest here. I don't like the cost of diesel. I can pay it, and I don't deny myself. I choose to curtail my driving because I refuse to support a bunch of greedy a$$ speculators who have driven the price up. There is no shortage of fuel or oil like in the 70s. There is just greed and I am not going to support it. We have cut back on driving here, not out of necessity, but out of protest. I don't want them to get one penny more of mine than necessary until they get their stuff in line with reality.
I know not everyone has it this way but I do, and this is what I do. Reduce demand and hopefully we all can benefit.
We (the consumers) have tried reducing the demand and the price still contined to rise.
Only when the government starting making rumbling noises of congressional hearings and investigations, etc. did the price level out at where it is today.
At least that is the way I saw it happening.
I hear you on that! That, along with the huge increase in material cost the last three years has taken a bite out my bottom line also.
I've been driving my Sable a lot more lately, but I hate having my head at bumper height with all the other trucks and SUV's on the road.

What kind of work do you do?
Im finding the same thing myself , my material prices are scaring away business .
We bought a Explorer and havnt started the 02 F-350 in a month.
I use my 94 one ton 7.3 for work and the Explorer for running around.
The 94 uses about half the fuel the 02 does.

This is exactly what i keep point out the people who always blame Bush for the high cost of fuel!
I will not park my truck. I am making BIO. But even then, methanol runs from $6-$7 /gallon .

Are both Diesels pretty much the same? Just wondering why the 94 gets better mileage than the 02?
I win, I think. I bought my 2003 Lariat SC LB 4X4 7.3L in the latter part of 2002 and still only have 51,000 some miles on it. So The greedy SOB's never got much of my money. I also loose, I think. I have a 2003 Forrest River Cardinal 5th wheel, that I camp all summer long and a campgrpund here in Ohio next to the river instead of traveling. I also have a 2005 Sea Ray Select 21' boat that uses a bit of fuel. But love boating.
