Do our breaks have a vacume assist? I started getting a BREAK light warning on my way back form Montana this weekend and it was like my minivan in that I had to press it EXTREAMLY hard to stop. In my mini van it was the Master cylinder. Do we have a vacume assist on our breaks? If not, what else could it be?
If it were the vacume pump. would other things be affected? For instance, When this happened, the thingy(dont know its name) that moves the vents from window to dash vents, which I know is vacume controlled, stoppped working as well so it would only put cold air to the defrost ports not the dash vents. Could this be related?
Does it have a gauge on it? that's pretty sweet.
I've heard of vacuum pump clutches/pulleys going out as well, maybe look into that before you replace the whole damn thing.
First off, I want to thank everyone who helped out on this. I like to put a final follow up on everything that I had to do. It turns out it was the vacume pump that I had to replace. It cost me $83.00 from Checker Auto. It was kind of funny because they had a rebuilt one for $109.00 or I could order a BRAND NEW one for $83.00. Go figure. Since they price match if you can find it lower I told them I did find one lower, it was at THERE store for $83.00, so in the end they did match it and I got a rebuilt one for $83.00.
The change out went smooth, you just need a power steering pump puller to get the pully thing the belt rides on off. You can reseat it back on the new pump with a bolt and washer.
My breaks now work great and my AC unit is functioning as it should.
Once again, thanks to all that helped solve this. FTE is the BEST by far!!!!!!
