I have 2 listed for 69 390. No hipo as the 69 390 was the IP (improved performance) engine 320 HP. BF-32's with a .034 gap for auto trans and BF-42's with a .034 gap for std trans. That said I gap all my plugs at .032 and as they burn the gap gets wider.
Thanks for the info. I have no idea what trans was originally behind this motor. It came out of a 69 Mach 1 'Stang, and now resides in my 67 F-100. I don't know the date code on the block, but the heads are 68 C8ae-Hs.
The PO had autolite 45s in it and they were gapped somewhere north of 40 thous. Anyways I stuck 45 back in it and set the gaps to 35 and figured I coulden't be far off.
BTW, while I'm in the FE forum, what would be a good place to stop revving said 390? Like I said I've got it in my F-100 and I don't have a tach in it, but in 1st(its got a 3.03) it seems like it will just keep on revvin..... I love that truck:-)
5500 would be a good redline for a new, stock 4bbl engine. 4500 would be better if there are question marks about valve gear, etc. I used to think I was revving our 390 2v to the moon. I used one of those calculator gizmos on the web and I doubt I ever had it much over 4000, and I doubt it would spin much over 4500 even if you held it. 4bbl motors with more aggressive cams are a different story. But remember, it's qualified for AARP, so unless you've gone through it, I'd be conservative with the loud pedal.

That sounds pretty reasonable. Like I said, I don't have a tach in it, but I think I'm gonna grab one just to see what she is doing. I have NO clue as to what has been done to this motor. I figure it must have been gone through at some point though. It dosen't smoke at all and runs beautifully(honestly like a new truck), although it could just be a low mile motor. The Mach 1 got totaled(so I'm told) from the rear and the owner had both it and the f-100 sittin in his barn. Apparently the stock 352 was pretty worn in and out so in went the 390. The truck shows 30 almost 31k so I'm gonna guess that prolly 230k though it could be 130k. The problem is I have no clue at what point (mile wise)the 390 was thrown in. I believe it was around 94-95....

Anywho, thanks for all your help!

Just do an ol' fashion compression test; dry first, then wet. I bet all your cylinders are within 10% of each other.
Man I tell ya what, I have trouble keeping my foot out of it! The only thing I wish was different was a 4 or 5 speed, but the 3 is better than an auto!
But thats not a bad idea on the compression test.....
