I was on ebay, looking at accessories for my Super Duty. I found a steering stabilizer kit, which says it replaces the original. But my '02 doesn't have one. Did all F-250's come from the factory with one? Thanks in advance.
Should've, if you're looking at the front of the truck, on the bottom left, it's painted black. that's the stock stabilizer. the Fabtech dual kit i got replaced the old one with a new bracket so you may not have to worry about it anyway, if it comes with the hardware and doesn't just replace the stock shock.... someone else will chime in
Well, I went out and looked and mine doesn't have one. Doesn't even have a bracket. My truck sways quite a bit on the road. Would getting a stabilizer help any?
Depends. A steering stablizer is supposed to take the "bump" steer away and make the truck a little easier to control. It also saves some wear and tear on steering components. Bump steer is just that, when you hit a bump, like a speed bump, you get a little shock through the system and the steering wheeel tends to jerk in your hands. A sterring stablizer minimizes that action.
Now, if your truck is wandering while you drive it then you might have other steering component related problems. Bad tie rod end, drag link, loose Pitman arm, bad ball joints, etc.
Noticed two years ago i didn't have one, argued with the dealership till they finally put one on, for free. Mine was supposed to have one, camper package.
My original was leaking so I figured it was time to change it. Was in Indy one day for an appointment and decided to go over to 4 Wheel Parts and see what they had (not just stabilizer). Talked over with the desk guy and decided to get a Pro Comp unit and they did the free shipping thing to my place since it is a considerable distance. Put the Pro Comp on (BTW, no boot with it) and turned wheel full, seal started leaking. Ship it back to 4WP and tell them to send me a Rancho (at least it has a boot with it). Go to put the Rancho on and it is too long. Call back up and they say there are two Rancho part numbers and the one they sent was for a modified front end (??). Send back again and get the next one, at least it has been working.

When I hear "swaying" I think of body roll. If it is body roll you may need shocks and/or springs. Check your suspension. Just a thought.

I should have said the truck wanders on the road. I am constantly moving the wheel left and right... I got under the front end and everything is as tight as can be. Maybe I should take it to the dealer?
I wouldn't take it to a dealer. I would find a good front end shop that specializes in 4x4s. I have two places close to me that I trust for front end work/alignments. One is an industrial tire supply place and the other is a custom 4x4 shop. A place like those should be able to throw it on a rack and tell you what is wrong. When I first bought my truck it wandered all over the road like a lost puppy. Turned out to be bad ball joints and a loose pitman arm. Replaced those and she drives like new.
How many miles on the truck? Oversized tires or no? Do much offroading with it?

The truck as 81,000 miles. The tires are 315/75R16. No, I don't go off road to much. How much would new ball joints and a pitman arm cost ruffly? Thanks.
