i got a decision to make and wondering what yall would do i got a 97 4x4 f250 psd with 230k miles and its to the point where it needs atleast $1000 of ball joints and front end work and tires all the way around and glow plugs would yall keep the truck and fix er up sell it and try and find something with less miles
I have to agree with TJ. Ball joints are a fairly simple task. If you got out and look for another truck I'm sure the difference is going to be more than $1000.
Although.. this depends on how much you like your OBS...
I just took out a loan for 2200$ to fix my 97 f250 with 250000 miles. I'd never go to a superduty. My frame would have patches on patches, and my body would be made of bondo before I would move to the new bodystyle. Even then I might be more opt to gettin another OBS. I Love my truck!
Trust me.. If you have problems with the engine let alone the rest of the truck we know how to fix it here at FTE! There are some people on here that seriously know these truck like the back of their hands!
Glow plugs are not a difficult job. I'm sure there is already a write up on how to to do those. If not we will do it on this thread. Not a big deal. Do a search. If you come up empty handed we will explain it all here.
Might have to do a little more searching for the ball joints but still, there are several folks on here that have done them. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
Another consideration: Is your current truck paid off yet? If so, $1000 /12 months is equivalent to about $84/ month. Much cheaper than the payments you'd make on a new purchase.
I would definitely keep it. Think of it this way. That $1000 equates to an $83 per month truck payment for one year. You are not going to find a better truck for that kind of money.
There is a saying that applies to our trucks as much as our wives.........it's cheaper to keep her.
What part of Arkansas are you from? You should pop down to the chapter forum and say hello.
the body is fair a little rust up above the windows and a few dents but nothing bad i guess i'm gonna keep her i have been really trying to figure out if i'm gonna do the ball joints or take it somewhere i can work on cars but don't have the tools and i'm afraid if i do it it will take more than a day which the local shop said they could do it in and i need the truck but they want like $750 in parts and labor to do the work and i figure another 250 once they get in to it and i live around little rock
