i want to lower the frontend of my 65 but not sure what would be better, faster, cheeper, and e z.i was thinking of building my own i beams.i have a good place were i can make them.or if i should go to a solid frontend.im not sure what it would take to do that tho.or if u guys got any ideas.im on a real small budget so if u could help me in any way that would b great
I used the DJM's on my old 65 and it gave me 3 inches plus smaller lo profile rims and tires gave me about 5 inches all together. Beams were about $500 used and all junkyard/ parts house stuff for 79 disc brakes. All said and done I had 5 inch drop and power disc brakes for about $850-900. Highly reccomended for 65-66. I am currently building a 63 Uni and have a IC Dakota kit. It will give a 4-6 drop/rack and pinion and 12 inch rotors. It does require welding however but other than the crossmember you can use all junkyard/parts house stuff too. A kit is available for 65-66 too if interested. Goodluck whatever you decide.
wel i ownly have 2 to 3 hundred to spend for now.i got a stang thats got work needed to.i dont want it slamed to the ground or and thing like that.id like to get the body down to about 6 inches from the ground, maybe a little higher.id still like to drive it down normal streets without having to worry
speed demon,
On my 65 I lowered the front end by cutting a full coil off from the front springs. A full coil is exactly 360 degrees from the top. I used a die grinder so there was no major heat applied to the spring (heat is a bad thing). Before I did this I contacted Eaton detroit spring company and they accually walked me through this process. This lowered the front end of the truck apx 2 inches. I then took my truck to a commercial truck alignment shop to bend my i-beams to correct for camber. I use KYB GSR shocks and I cant be more pleased with the ride. Still has plenty of dampening but much decreased body role. By cutting a coil off you increase the spring rate same as a lowering spring on a modern car/truck. Total cost was free to cut the springs and $85 for the alignment. Good luck
