hey guys I am buying a engine off of my buddy. it has couple glowplugs snapped off in the heads. any tips?
thanks,
jimmy
The only real option is to pull the heads. All it takes is for a piece to drop past the precup and take out a piston. You could try to blow some air into the injector hole and hope the pieces come out the GP hole, but it's a long shot at best.
I have heard that it might be possible to take the exhaust manifold off and thread a small vacuum tube into the chamber to get any pieces that may have fallen in. Is the engine loose or is it installed in a vehicle?
ok gues well i tryed to drill it and use a easy out and well if i push anymore on the easy out its goign to break. its not giving it up to easy. tryed heat and everything. the heads are off of the motor now. anyone know what size tap dad and i need to drill and tap it? dad is a tool and die maker and can order the tap and drill and tap it out for me. now for the other problem. the rest of the plugs the metal that screws in came out but the tips are broken off in there stuck. i gues ill just have to drill the tips out since the heads are off of the motor.
i never messed withthe precupe before. how do they come out and go in? Also what holds them in? Just a tight fitZ/ Also is there any certaint order or way to put them back in and also any tips getting them out?
ok guys I did take a drill smaller then the glow plug tip and drilled down and cought the burr on the glow plug tip and while spinning the glow plug around i pulled up on the drill and la la the glow plug tip came out. i got all 5 done this way. but still have one that is snapped off inside the head and easy out will not take it out at all. I need to find out what thread size the glow plug is so i can buy a tap and have my dad drill and re tap the threads in the head for it.
thanks,
jimmy
Jimmy, if the heads are off, just unthread the glow plug and when it breaks off, take a punch and drive it through to the combustion chamber. As far as what the thread pitch and size is just use a thread gauge.
The closest match to the glow plug I had was a 10mm x 1.25mm tap. The tap diameter was a match but the pitch was still too course a thread. I think its safe to assume that 10mm x 1.0mm is the correct size.
