Exhaust System Upgrade

About two months ago I put in a Magnaflow 4" exhaust system. I wasn't happy with the U-bolt clamps. Just couldn't get them tight enough not to leak some soot. Monday I ordered some 4" SS exhaust band clamps from Rock Auto. They came today and I got those U-bolt clamps replaced with the band clamps. The band clamps are really heavy duty and the bolts are SS as well. They are also formed to fit the 4"ID to 4"OD joints. Turned out good and they were easier to install then the u-bolt clamps. Here's a composite pic.

If you aren't going to weld it, that is certainly the way to go,. Looks good.

Hate to weld it because as soon as I do I'll get stopped and have to put the muffler in or worse the CAT.

Good deal. Makes it a cleaner install instead of the u-bolt style. Have to look into this.

Looks good Robin. When I do my exhaust I may just use those right from the start.

Lower profile is also a big plus. I had good luck with the U-bolt clamps on mine sealing things up, but they are all gone now anyways (except the hangers).

You'll save time and have a more rigid exhaust.

them are the best clamps for a diesel exhaust system..they look sharp on a black painted 5" exhaust and they don't rust away...the best thing is..if you need to take the exhaust out down the road..these clamps don't crush the pipe..so the pipes will all pull apart with no effort....most all your big truck parts store has them on hand..they also make a good patch for any rust holes that appear in your exhaust system..nice Job Robin..looks good..

That's great to know. I will definately use them when I do my exhaust. I get some of the parts for my cabover from Pioneer here in MA. I'll call them to see if they carry them. Thanks Robin and Ron!!

Thanks for the info Robin, I recently bought a Magnaflow 4" and would not have thought about picking up the band clamps. Glad I read this thread before I installed it. (Hopefully next week)
