There is no purple wire on a 91.
That was on the old style system 86 and older.
You need a relay, the glow plug system draws about 200 amps while heating.
The 87 and newer system uses resistance feedback from the glow plugs to time the heat cycle.
How long are yours staying on?

No to hijack but how would you wire up the glow plug controller? I have an issue with that side of the wiring harness, the side that powers the controller, getting super hot. I replaced the harness and the controller relay but I would like to do away with that if I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I don't mind the hijack that was proably going to be my next question.
