Archangel's way is the way I did it the 4-5times I took mine off and on right after I bought it.
I still used an air ratchet too, I just made the extension exactly the right length instead of too long like the first time.
The reason I had to tip the nose of the starter down was after i couldn't back the top bolt all the way out because the socket hit the starter case. and after i hung the starter on the bottom two bolts (i forgrot to say this) i lifted the starter up and put the top bolt in by reaching behind the inner fender and over the frame rail and got the bolt started. Then I let the starter drop so i had clearance to get the socket on it. Mine is a direct drive starter so I'm not fimiliar with the gear reduction ones.
