Smile wish me luck !!!!

welp ladies and gents i have come to a conclusion . despite many freinds owing me favors etc. i cant seem to get anyone to give me a hand with things i've either lost confidence in myself with , or i just plain cant do or have a fear of . so me and the wife have been conversing and , { she's been out in the garage cleaning , scraping , spraybombing , getting greasy on the ol' fords ..... what gives ??????} i am about to embark on a perilous trip . i am gonna buy a wiring kit and do it myself , which means when you turn on the lights the truck will start , and do something i haven't done without the guidance of my grandpa since i was wee young , attempt the body work myself . he-- this truck will never be back on the road !!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i can build a dain race car i'm sure i can get this done .

You can certainly do the wiring kit.. they really are very easy with the labeled wires.. hardest part is figuring out where to put the fuseblock.

on the bodywork.. depends on what you want the result to look like!..

I thought I did good, careful, and straight.. (pre-bondo).. but a professional will make it look sick!..

We are here to support you as best we can.. (I can't hold the panels very well from here tho)

Don't forget the frosties and cookies. Frosties make everything look better and cookies make crow taste better. Don't sweat the small stuff, as we said in the military. There is so much help on FTE, you will be back on the road before you know it. Have a great day, chuck

The wiring is easy! First of all buy a good quality harness, I'd recommend EZ Wire or It's a Snap for high quality at a realistic price. Divide the wires up by where they go: engine compartment, dashboard, rear, accessories you will use, accessories you will likely never use. Twist tie each group into bundles. Next decide where and how the fuse block will mount, and how you will route the bundles from the fuseblock to the area where they go. You do not need to follow the original routing, especially if you want to keep your firewall clean. Use an Irwin Unibit to drill holes in sheet metal, and install a rubber grommet in any holes that wires pass thru. Wire one bundle at a time and ignore the rest. breaking the job down into small sections will definitely reduce your stress level and fear of dealing with a Gorgon's head of snakes. Your local big box DIY store or Radio Sucks will have a good selection of wire ends, grommets, wire loom, hangers, zip ties, combo stripping (make sure they can strip at least 20-10 ga) and staking tools.
You can think of wiring as plumbing for electrons. The wires are the pipes, some places need more flow so it uses larger pipes. The chassis or ground circuit is the sewer, it returns the electrons back to the supply (battery) the devices are the users, and the switches are the on and off valves. The fuse box is the distribution point and the fuses are the safety valves should a pipe spring a leak (short out).

I would also recommend getting a set of new switches from them unless you have a burning desire to use the originals. Their switches are late model OEM quality/type, at 1/2 the price others want for them, and match up to their harness. Don't forget the high beam switch.

That is a great description!.. I think I have viewed that in my head forever, just never found a way to say it..

I can't think of who sang the song but you need to be playin' "You Light Up My Life" while doin' the wireing just to remind yourself to go slow and do it right.

You can do it. I had the best time doing mine. Just write down everything you want to do before and mark everything, double check everything. When I fired mine up after I was done it was the best feeling. I used a Plainless block and the instructions were good.

Two prime candidates for the "tips and tricks" sticky, if I ever saw.

Kevin just move 300 miles north, and a little to the east, and we could help each other.
