I am trying to decide on some type of storage container that I can use in my bed for cleaning supplies, chairs, and gear. I am currently using a hard plastic container from Wal-mart but would like to find something that is just older and cooler. I have seen the foot trunks and coke cooler but just want to see what you guys are using or looking to use. I just to get ideas. Thanks.
I'm looking at getting a diamond plate box to put in mine, hopefully before winter. I say hopefully because things keep comming up that I need to get or do that are more important right now. I like the coke cooler idea though.

Rodney--I have a 1965 sears-allstate single axle trailer the size aproximately 3' x 4' and it is all sandblasted and painted to match our avanti. We don't use it much, but it could be painted black and pull it behind your 56--and it has a top-like a clamshell and would be cool to haul. Just an idea......Bill
I've posted this idea before, and neither might not fit you tastes, especially the last one, but I posting them for other use.
I saw an article a few years ago in Vintage Truck magazine in which a guy with a flatbed truck used a stack of 2X4s assembled to look like a stack of lumber. What he really did is use full length boards on the sides, top and bottom and short stubs on the end making a hollow box big enough to store a cooler, chairs and other items. He made a door on top of the stack and hid the seam using two wide straps. He also made the box removable so he could take it off.
The second truck I saw was at a show and it was a half ton pickup. The owner made a wooden frame to fit the inside of his box. He fastened a loose piece of canvass over the the frame and propped up the center of the canvass from the bottom, making a kind of tent. He then impregnated the canvass with resin, coated it with corn, more resin and more corn. When he was done it looked like he was hauling a load of corn to market. He also hinged it at the front so he could open the cover and store his stuff underneath.
hmmm bob . giving me some ideas . mine's gonna be harder though . gotta make it look like im carrying around a bunch of old ford parts on top ..... or better yet like a load of manure as the wife says i'm full of it .
That's easy, get a couple of those plastic mock up flatheads. Build a big crate with an open top, but actually have a top recessed a couple of inches and glue the plastic flatheads on an angle, to resemble a couple of engine tossed into a box, on the top of the box and you have your pile of junk.
Thanks, Kind of wish I hadn't sold the red one (it now lives in Florida). The garage was changed after these pictures. I now have a work bench along the back also and a lot more cabinets and painted it light brown and white.
The Ford sign is the cover for my fuel tank filler. The screw at the end acts as a handle and the sign and rib lift as one.

Last time I looked on ebay, those "plastic mock up" flatheads were $300!! It would be cheaper to buy junk flathead blocks...of course, it would be very tough to open the lid...
hmm i got a couple of flatty blocks still ..... lets see make some stands to bolt them too , then get some heavy clear cylindrical containers to put in the cylinders all the way to the base of the stand . then figure out a way of sealing it all off and refigerating it . you could just put cans of frosty in the cylinders !!!!!!!! . paint up a pair of lightweight doors to look like cyliner heads ........... time to stop before i start yet another project and dont finish the others ....
I have an old wiskey barrel that I plan to lay on it's side and cut a door in. I then plan to seal the charred wood inside to lock in the whiskey smell and use that for some tools and chairs etc... I saw one similar at the super nats about 5 years ago and it was pretty cool. I have an old 7-up cooler as well as an old Coke cooler that hold a couple of sandwiches and many beverages. They are kind of heavy even though they were made for picnicing. They have some "Retro" ones that are smaller today, but these are original and look cool as well.
Thanks guys, you have given me even more options to think about. I went to a car show this weekend and there was a 50 F1 there with this coke cooler in it but the thing stuck up past the bed about a 2 feet and that seems the norm around here. I have found a guy in Alabama that hoards old foot trunks and I am trying to get up with him to see what they are but I am in the process of moving into a new house so time has been slim. Bill, can you send me a pic of your trailer?
