I have had good luck with the small block edelbrock heads. They seem to hold up well and make decent power out of the box. I would never just add heads though. I would go ahead and add a cam and intake while its apart. I would also try finding a good set of used ones on the cheap.
My experience with the Edelbrock heads was great!!! I did install the cam and Performer RPM intake to go with them, though. The heads were CNC ported and flowed by a shop specializing in racing cylinder heads... A few bucks, but IMO the performance increase was well worth it!!!! Just sitting down with a grinder and hogging out the ports if done wrong can actually make the performance worse./...... IMO, if you're going to spend the bucks on porting, make sure the shop has a flow bench to check them on or you're just guessing.....
have the performer rpm intake, 750 holley, 360 pistons, crane 941 cam, it has a good sound and runs great.
BUT i always want more. I am also looking into the electronic ignition to add.
i just never seems to be enough
Know what you mean! Can't imagine having too much power!!!! The engine I mentioned in the previous post ran one of the MSD "Plug and Play" units, worked great!
well from everything that i have read on the heads it seems that i should stick with what i have and get them ported.
Might want to look at the actual flow numbers and see which head has the flow numbers closest to what your engine will be needing.... Actually as easy to put on too big of a head as it is too big of a cam.... As far as which is best....hard to say unless everyone wants to bring their favorite head to an engine dyno and try them all.... The combination of head, cam, intake, carb, and ignition is what makes the best power, not just one particular head.... Make sure the comparisons are comparing apples to apples.....

I think it would be a blast to do it sometime!!!! Everybody bring their favorite head and run them on the same short block.... The only loser on the deal would be the poor guy who furnished the short block for the test mule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scrap the head idea!! put a good valve job on them and to some blending in the bowl area, then get a good blow through carb or a cheap EFI setup like holle projection. Then its time to hit the junkyard and find a set of turbos off a diesel truck for the new twin turbo setup I say that would give you a whole lot more power than just a head swap, a little more involved but not that hard to do really.
