ok so today i washed and waxed my truck and everything was going great untill i got to the passenger side rear wheel well... on the outside just above the wheel well towards the rear i spotted what appears to be a paint bubble about 5/16" in diameter that is a clear indication of rust forming under the paint. the funny thing is that right after i bought the truck new in july of '04 they performed a recall for some pad (i cant remember the exact name of the pad that was replaced) that went on the back of the body panel that was recalled for retaining water that could lead to corrosion through the metal causing the condition i've got. my main question is if anyone else has had this happen after that recall was performed. i know that its been 4 years since it was done but shouldn't this been prevented with the recall repair?? before i call my dealer and complain to the service writer, which he'll prolly tell me im SOL, i would like to know what you all think i should do and if anyone has had the same problem and what if anything was done about it. I know its a piddly issue but i want my truck to look good for a long time and DO not want it to turn into a rustbucket yet lol! by the way i do have an extended warranty if that makes a difference. All imput will be appreciated!
thanks in advance!!
All I know is thats bs if they did the recall obviously it didnt do anything unless this has nothing to do it with the problem your having I would take it back to em
the Butyl pad did and still does cause rust. between the recall and the Rust/Corrosion warranty, Ford should fix that free of charge. I've seen several posts with similar situations like yours. most ended up getting fixed under warranty.
Thanks for the responses guys! im gonna call the dealer and hopefully they'll be able to take care of this. ill post again when i know whats goin on with them.
thanks again!
well i went to the dealer this morning to have them look at it and guess what!! "oh thats not rust forming under the paint, thats cross contamination" i did a double take. what!? what the h*ll is cross contamination. this is exactly what they told me and actually expected me to believe it... "at the factory during assembly a worker probably hit the fender with a stainless steel hammer by accident and a piece of the stainless hammer stuck to the steel fender, got primed and painted and 4 years later due to the dis similar metals is corroding much like corrosion on a battery terminal. its not rust, its a paint defect." now im a pretty level headed person but i just couldn't stomach that load of BS!! the manager then told me that its not gonna rust, and if it is rusting through its not gonna show for 5 or 6 years. boy i tell ya they must get a lot of yuppie idiots going through that dealership but im not one of em. so i am awaiting a call from ford motor company's regional customer service manager.
guys am i wrong or am i just dealing with a bunch of idiots and just wasting my time? man im t'd off
Well i got the phone call this morning, all the factory is willing to do is have me go to the body shop that the dealer uses and to get an estimate for them to fix it. He then told me that once we agree on a price I pay half and they would pick up the rest. What a load of crap, they must see a lot of "cross contamination" cases. i dunno i think ill live with it if i gotta pay for somthing that occoured at the FACTORY DURING ASSEMBLY! o well i still love my truck.
