My a/c in my 03 EB goes from vents to floor or dash like it on a cycle. No matter the setting I cannot keep it blowing just out of the dash vents for more than a few minutes. It just switches back and forth and is very annoying. Any suggestions or tips???
If it like mine in that the changing is based on engine loading, which changes the vacuum:
- It is likely a vacuum leak, or
- what I hope: a check valve failing.
I hope it is in the under hood vacuum lines and not under the dash or in the controls themselves...
Follow up -
Mine is a 2003 Navigator fully loaded and has the automatic dual a/c... Not that the details matter much, mostly the year:
Problem was (at least so far) in the 4 adapters that take the hard vacuum lines to their associated partsL:
- Vacuum canister (rectangular behind the battery)
- The two check valve set up where it takes vacuum from the engine and sends it to the above canister and to the a/c control vacuum line which goes through the "firewall" (though we can't call it that, right...)
They were really soft and the black wiped right off...
Post update - never mind on the above. I drove it over the weekend, and it ran o.k. Did not take it on the interstate though. Wife said it acted up today on the interstate...
