75 f250 a/c

hay guys i have a 75 f250 that had factory air when i got the truck the air was gone but now i have installed another system from my parts truck my question is this can i install the new r134 with out changing the o-rings or do i have to buy a conversion kit also do i have to blow the old oil out can i just use my air compressor and blow it out with compressed air any help would be great thanks

Given the age of the system you have it would be to your advantage to change the hoses and the "O" rings. Flushing out the system to rid it of the mineral oil used with R-12 is very important because R-134 does not mix with it. The oil used with 134 is a PAG oil which is a glycol based oil and it does not get along well with mineral based oil either. The two mixed together cause sludge and that causes compressor failures. It is recommended that each component be flushed independently to rid all oil from the system. The compressor especially because it is the hardest to get all the oil out of. the condensor and evaporator cam probably be flushed with the stuff they sell at the local auto parts suppliers. It is not a good idea to use compressed air, but sometimes you have no alternative.
