Hello everyone. New guy here. Great forum and valuable insite on diesel stuff and everything else.
Its a 91 F-250 7.3 5-spd regular cab a little beat up and some rust. Will not turn over with a jump. The lady has no clue whats wrong with it. Been sitting for over a year. Maybe get it for a grand or less. She wants it gone.
If it won't even turn over, I would say $600 tops. With the price of diesel these days, the age and condition of the truck, and the cost of a rebuild, feel free to drive a hard bargain. Be aware that even if you do get it, the repair costs can climb quickly.
If it won't turn over with a jump then either the $200 starter is bad or engine seized up or something electrical gone out. I would really question it. Did the batteries even try to start or was it just your power thru cables trying to start. I doubt unless you charged for 30 minutes you had enough charge to even engage the starter just going thru cables.
If it does not have a couple decent batteries that can hold some charge, and if you don't set there and let the vehicle jumping the truck charge the batteries up some, it won't start.
Well that might not be exactly right, look at the battery cables on the truck.
If you have a two battery vehicle, and jumper cables as big as the battery cables, it should crank.
The dinky little cables most stores carry for jumper cables will not do the job.
I have to go back out there with some tools and put a socket on the crank and see if its frozen or not. If it is then I will pass. If it turns it might be salvageable. I did not jump it with my car. I just used one of those booster battery packs and a little smoke came up from the rear of the engine compartment when trying to crank, but still no crank. The glo plug light did came on though.
I think I might offer her $500 just to take it off her hands. Flat bedding it home will be around $275 I think.
