I bought a wireless one from Walmart for about $100. It works well for me except for an occasional signal interference.
Jon,
Is that the one that is made by VR3, Virtual Reality Sound? I've seen that one on the net. I've seen some sites that have had it for less that $100. I was wondering if that was a good camera or not. I only need to use it for hitching up my camper. Do you think that this camera would work well for that?

I've had this one (from Wal-Mart) on my truck for a couple of years. I installed it as a grandchild protector but it has been great when I hook up my camper and utility trailer. I can hook up and hit it right on the button almost every time without any help.
The only problem I have is I occasionally see the inside of a local bank when I pass it that apparently has a camera on the same frequency.
I've read other reviews that said that they also have had interference from other sources. Someone even mentioned that they pulled up next to someone who had a similar camera, and they could see what they were looking at. Actually I'm kind of surprised by this because this unit uses Bluetooth technology, and you have to pair up the two devices in order for them to work correctly. But, I don't plan on keeping mine on at all times, just when I hook up to my camper.

I don't think it uses bluetooth becase I didn't have to pair the camera up with anything, I thinks it uses a RF technology. That's the reason for the interfearence. Also, the camera is only supposed to operate when you have your truck in reverse. The camera hooks up to one of your reverse lights. Of course someone could connect it to a brake/parking lamps too.. I think for $100, it is not a bad camera.
The VR3 doesn't use Bluetooth. It uses the standardized radio frequency which wireless video cameras have used for at least a decade. I have one of them and it works, but will be replacing it because I have a device now which allows me to put all sorts of things into it to be monitored from one screen (GPS, cameras, digital gauges, mileage, virtual dyno, etc.) so it'll be redundant to have two screens in the truck.
hmmm...I've got a Garmin and the Edge on my dash already....Anybody find some new way of mounting the back up camera? I wonder if I could mount it to my visor(?)
I bought one of those VR3 backup camera's for my dad's E350 cargo truck, now that thing has a HUGH blind spot. It works ok, the truck is pretty long so the camera is pretty much at its working limit, so it's got some snow on the screen but not too bad. Should work much better on a regular size vehicle. It comes with a wiring harness to tap into the reverse lights as mentioned, but you can hook it up however you want. I just hooked it up to ignition controled power so its on all the time and you can use it as a rearview mirror. The monitor comes with a cig lighter adapter or you can hard wire it. The monitor has a dashmounted arm or you can hang it on the visor. The monitor is a little thick, so it might not be the best to mount on your visor, but it will work. The monitor also has 3 or 4 settings so you can rotate the screen to match whichever way you mount it. The camera mounts on the license plate and it's got several adaptors to change the angle of the camera. I got it a couple of years ago for $110 and the price is now under $100 and I think the models been updated. Not bad for the price.

Thanks. I would like to have one sometimes because it was already high enough in the tail, and when I added my toolbox, I have to use my side mirrors only when backing. I'm glad I have the trailer tow mirrors.

Not BT? Hmmm, I've been reviewing so many of these things, that perhaps I got confused with another one. I thought for sure I read that this was Bluetooth, but that explains why I read several reviews of interference. But I see Wallyworld has this one for $87. For $87, I think that I can handle a little interference.
I wish it were Bluetooth. I can think of some pretty neat stuff that could be done with it (interface to a PDA, etc.).
Yap, that was my exact same thought. I was thinking using my PDA instead of the monitor that came with it. But, if I go with that one, I guess I'll just have to make do with the monitor that comes with it.
I've seen a couple of others that I've been looking into. The monitor for these are clipped onto the rear view mirror. One is by Pyle and the other is by Boyo. There's one review on the Boyo, but I haven't been able to find any reviews for the Pyle. The Boyo is considerly more expensive, $299, but the Pyle is within my price range, $130. I would prefer to have one less device cluttering up my dash. But, with the feed back that I've gotten on the VR3, and for less than $100, I might just have to go that route.
