Changes

Well I usually don't air out alot on here but I did do quite a bit of work today to the old beast, I had to change outthe water pump which I am expecting is stock cause of the 2 piece lower hose outlet, switched crank case to AMSOIL synthetic 15/40 cause he is a hometown hero (Duluth, MN) and did the 6637 mod using parts from my old AFE intake and cutting out the old airbox area. I am making a trip to tx tomorrow so I will let you all know what my milage gain is as i progressed. My control trips were loaded prior to mods weighing in at 17000 lbs truck and trailer got bout 13-14 avg mpg at 60 and unloaded I got 19.5 headed to Green Bay on the 3rd. so I am leaving my oil 1 qt low to reduce drag on the crank, new filter, synthetic oil and new water pump.and for a cover I am gonna cover the filter with a leg from an old set of my wifes nylons to keep out the big stuff to extend its life....if this catches on as a Mod to a mod I'd like it to be the FROmod too.............

Are you pulling a trailer or are you empty on this trip? Either way I think your millage will stay the same. "No noticeable difference."

MPG will most likely stay the same....do you run any additives like DK ? that helps a little...the cover mod is already out and in prodution..

I gained about .5 to 1 mpg doing the 6637, but that was the only thing I ever did that changes my MPG, since you had the AFE originally, I dont think I would expect any improvements. Just less wear now with the synthetic oil

Can you give us more info? I don't know about drag on the crank, but are you going to run an additive? How fast will you be going? Will you use the cruise control? How often are you going to stop?

I can hit any of the above numbers just based on how I drive, so I think driving habits will be the biggest factor. If you duplicate the 19.5 driving style, and keep your speed down I'd say you'll easily get into the 20 - 22 range. If you're pulling a trailer it will be lower. If you're pulling a trailer that looks like a big sail, the numbers will be much lower.

update

to answer some Q I run 2 stroke oil and diesel kleen, and I am running the crankcase at 1 qt low. I am driving all the way down on I-35 at about 55-60 MPH. I am hauling a 18 foot car hauler empty down and hauling back a bunch of car parts in the bed and a grand am on the trailer. hopefully this helps you all. I am going to post all the milages by receipt and then you'll know how it went.

Running a quart low wont make any difference for the crankshaft. If your oils up that far, its overfilled and will turn your oil to a nice bubbly mess.

My bet is you'll gain 1mpg at most from the 6637. I got a little increase in mileage when I put that in. It probably woulda been more if it wasn't for ULSD.
