E4od Issues

94 F350 Crew 4x4, 7.3 turbo. The E4OD seems to jump out of gear or try to downshift while just cruising down the road, not while under acceleration. The engine rpm's jump up a few hundred revs and then drop back down and away we go. Might happen two or three times on the way to work and not happen again for a few weeks. Had it tested today and no codes were there. Found some info on-line and was seeming to point to a "manual lever position sensor" also known as a "transmission range sensor" I'm told. Does anyone have any ideas or similar experiences? Was told these units were not real good and Ford came out with an update to replace them. Something about the seal letting moisture in to the unit and causing problems. Also, sometimes there's a loud, deep "fan" sound under acceleration that fades away slowly as the truck gains speed. Any ideas on this? Then sometimes, there's a virbation, like you would get from extremely aggressive mud tires on the road. This comes and goes. Are all these issues related? Is the "fan" sound coming from the torque converter? Is the vibration a carrier bearing in the drive line? Out of ideas. Thanks for reading.

Don't rest your foot on the brake pedal.........torque convertor unlocks RPMs rise 2-300.

Fan noise may be just that the truck has a lockup fan...... locks up and releases depending on coolant temperature. Radiator air passes over the fan clutch sensor and it will react to correct operation needed.

Could be a driveline problem causing the vibration, need to do some hands on checking for movements/rust on the univerals and Cbearing.
