I am in the process of wiring up my CB radio into my truck, and I need to find an antenna. On a few of my other trucks, I went with whip antennas, which I am not opposed to, but I thought it might look good to find a factory CB antenna.
Not being born and raised a Ford guy, I have no idea what the factory used, or if they can be found, but I'd sure like to figure out if it is a feasible idea...
The only way you are going to find a factory CB antenna is to go search a junkyard or by some shear luck one pops up on ebay. If by some luck you happen to find one it will look like this and then you will need a special adaptor to hook it up to a RG59 coax connector. It also works as the AM/FM antenna to.
Wow.. i would have never guessed that that was factory.. where would that have been mounted factory?
You cant go wrong with the whip. Bigger the better. A 70's Ford truck is not complete without it. I got a 12ftr off my tool box. I git H3lll bout it from everybody. My girlfriend never did like it (or my truck rele) so i got rid of her. lol
I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those antennaes. You can use a Radio Shack splitter if you don't have the original. What I like about it is the coil loading on the bottom.
You can try looking at Ford cars from the mid to late '70's for the power versions - my mother's old '77 Mercury Grand Marquis had a dealer installed CB/Cassette/Radio with a power retractable AM/FM/CB antenna and its base was the same rectangular style as the pickup. It seems I used to see those combo power antenna in JC Whit back then, too, but haven't looked for them in ages.

Anyone seen any original or similar?
Where ya going to mount it? It would require heavy mods to the cowl to be able to retract.

Well, actually, I was sort of wondering about that too! That retractable on my mother's merc had a huge cavernous trunk to tuck itself into! Not a lot of room in the cowl area of these trucks. Now it would be cool to french one into the front side of the box.
